glad I got a Fire HD10 and not a Show http://www.aftvnews.com/turn-a-fi...onal-dock/ no dock needed. The newly announced Show Mode Charging Docks will be the best way to take full advantage of Show Mode, but they're not required for the new feature.

press release https://www.businesswire.com/news...-Show-Mode

now if this dock or stand was generic Qi then I'd be using it for my nexus tablets too. However it looks proprietary with charging pins in the photo. BOO!!

So what's special about the dock to enable the show mode?

The new thing is really the wireless charging case I think. Put it down and it's a show. Pick it up and it's a tablet.

I'm guessing the next generation of Fire tablets will have wireless charging, or these contacts built into them to support the docks.

I have both of the echo plus & echo show, this is a great alternative for someone who already have the tablet and don't want to spend $150 for the echo show. In my opinion aside from the sound feature you will have with the echo show this is a better option especially after Google removed YouTube from the Amazon devices with your tablet you will have the best of both worlds the ability to use your tablet with YouTube in an echo show mode thanks to the Amazon Silk browser and be able to use it as a tablet. This is Amazon way to lash back at Google for removing you tube from the echo show! Just as they added the Silk browser to all of the Fire TV immediately after Google removed YouTube for those who didn't know a way around it.

Agreed. The sound of the Show is quite good. HD 10 Fire is marginal. Would need to hook up a decent speaker but thats doable too.

I will be interested whether you can tape in a cheap Qi adopter and charger to avoid the $40-50 case charge, like:

https://www.gearbest.com/power-ba...HMQAvD_BwE

Any input on this will be appreciated.

cool, never thought about wireless receiver pads with micro USB plug. I've only used them on compatible phones with pins under cover. I don't see why not, I already have a wireless stand that I was going to return but I might experiment with your idea. The stand needed a spacer to lift tablet in landscape or it wouldn't charge.

I haven't got the new Show Mode yet, not even sure I need it but I would like to get more out of my Fire OS, it's kinda locked down and limited. Frankly I don't know why the tablet would care whether it's Qi standard as long as it's a USB plug.

To be clear, I'm paying $50 (HD 10) for an adjustable charging stand here?

And the distinction between this and the "show" model is that the "show" model has speakers?

Hang on, LMGTFM

I'm actually considering this. I have a FireHD 8 (2017) tablet I grabbed at the $25 deal last year. I also have 3x Amazon Cloud Cams, a Ring system, audible, Hue, ecobees, and 4 dots. My wife is currently using an old 3rd gen iPad in the kitchen for recipes/netflix, and the FireHD tablet is primarily dormant. As much as I'm wary to jump on products like this, I think it would make the FireHD more convenient for her, as a big annoyance is keeping the iPad charged and not being able to move it easily.

Plus it'll probably drop further on Prime Day, and I'm envisioning a decent size order I can use the AMEX 20% discount on (for a second time).
