I know nothing about these but I need to pick up a trimmer. Seems like a good deal but can anyone with experience back it up?

Bought it about three weeks ago on sale for $179. I love it! Works for about 40 minutes on low speed, but that's all I ever need. I'm able to do my front and back, and my back yard is fenced. And then do my front again the week after on one battery charge. I'm going to look around for my receipt and either get a price adjustment or buy/return on old receipt.

Can it have an edger attachment instead of string trimmer?

Well damn. Just bought the 40 volt version of this from Amazon, and literally used it for the first time today. Great trimmer, and my husband is already looking at buying other cordless yard tools from their lineup.

No this version is not attachment compatible. They do make one that is but it's more expensive. Spend the extra on a proprietary stand-alone edger.

I don't have a direct comparison, but I recently got the Milwaukee m18 string trimmer and hedge trimmer kit ($300). Holy smokes I was blown away. I kept thinking surely the battery on this hedge trimmer is going to die any second now. But it never did. I was out there for at least an hour. Slicing like butter. Then I moved over to the string trimmer, and there was still plenty of power in the battery (did not run it for that long, however, as i was out of time).

Anyway, I went the Milwaukee route rather than something like Greenworks or Ego, as it would be more likely that I would buy more tools from the Milwaukee lineup. I can't myself justify a higher-end battery platform specifically for yard tools, given my lack of skill and effort.

Debating between this set or Worx 40V trimmer, blower and 2 40V batteries for $114 or Ryobi 40V trimmer with battery for $120 or Troy-bilt gas straight shaft trimmer with free edger attachment for $130.
