Very low prices on the open box versions of this model. Pretty good prices online, but many people are finding them for $800-900 plus tax in store for lower condition open box. I got one in perfect condition for $818 plus tax. If a Best Buy in your city has any condition open box of this item, definitely check it out.

This model is the one with a Core i7 7700HQ, GTX 1070, 1080p IPS G sync screen, 16 GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD, as well as the normal other Alienware laptop stuff.

Yeah, the Excellent condition is the way to go unless you get to look at the lower conditioned ones in store. I bet there are plenty that are in nice enough shape to save the extra $76. But I wouldn't drop to Fair, not much of a savings there.

I have no knowledge on Alienware, but I have heard it's a good gaming PC.

I'm trying to game on PC, laptop in this case for portability, is this good enough for shooter games (BF3, BF4, COD, ETC) and can I use remote controls instead of the keyboard and mouse? I'm currently a PS4 gamer.

I appreciate the help and will rep for any help. Thanks.

Yes. You can game just fine on this. You should be able to connect the controllers via USB or Bluetooth.

I have the 17 R4 model with i7-6700HQ, it runs everything I have. It's also my main VR rig with using a Vive now as well. It runs all your listed games.

i7-6700HQ
16GB
128GB M.2(sata) + 1TB HDD
GTX 1070
1080P/60Hertz

Build quality in my 17 been great, I did add a additional storage drive (additional 512GB NvME M.2 drive) and more RAM (16GB to 32GB) to run more virtual OSs.
The main thing that hurts is the few USB (2 USB-A, 1 USB-C, and a 1 Thunderbolt) ports though and no SD slot, but I'm looking towards a thunderbolt dock in the future when those are more reasonable.

I did use this for a deployment in the Southwest Asia with all my gear, flying all round and ended up scratching a small plastic side trim when I got home Frown... otherwise flawless. The keyboard is surprising good, and the 17 has a full size keypad.

If you're spending this much money, feel safe in knowing you will easily be able to play old shooters like BF4. If you really aren't interested in newer games or VR gaming, then I would recommend getting something cheaper like this when it comes back in stock:

https://slickdeals.net/f/11748043-acer-nitro-5-an515-51-55wl-15-6-ips-intel-core-i5-7th-gen-7300hq-2-50-ghz-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-8-gb-memory-256-gb-ssd-windows-10-home-64-bit-gaming-laptop-568-37?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1

You can easily find something in the $600-700 range that will be great for you. This is a higher end laptop, so if you're not sure what this is, it's probably not the best fit for you.

And to Tekerugburn, if you're only gaming on the built in screen, I agree that you're not going to stress the 1070 much at all. I hook up my computers to a 4K monitor and Oculus Rift, so the screen isn't as much of an issue for me. I've heard the IPS screen is really nice though, so I think it'll still be a nice gaming experience, and I corrected the OP to say that it is G Sync.

The $1,178 model is now sold out online, so it is in store only for now.

Make sure to investigate the known heat problem with alienware. A lot of owners really push this thing to the max and have a lot of complaints about longetivity as a result.

I have the R2 version of this laptop. It is built like a tank and still going strong. I will definitely upgrade to another Alienware when the time comes. Know that to replace the battery is a true nightmare. Dell will not replace it after the battery warranty has expired, even if you get the extended warranty. Hopefully dell made the battery accessible on the R3.

haha, nice. I also wish Dell/Best Buy would discount the brand new model for $500 cheaper than their current sale price. It will probably drop down to that in ~6 months, but by then you would probably want the GTX 1170 model, but that will be ~$2,000, so you would probably have to wait another 6 months..... and then a new CPU would come out, etc, etc....

Got the same model on open box satisfactory last week for $906.00 at my local Best Buy. Internet price said $1101.00 but my local Best Buy had it at $906.00. The computer runs solid and I've been playing GTA 5 at ultra. I haven't had any heat problems. I ran the S/N and it still has 6 months left of manufacture warranty. It's a pretty good deal at $906.000 just don't go by internet price it might be cheaper at the store.
