Is this a new model? Not many reviews online. Would anyone be able to compare this to TCL 6-series? I just bought the 55r617 yesterday

The R617 is a good solid TV with a high rating, but it's still using VA panel. I prefer IPS panel for better viewing angles in my living room. rtings [rtings.com] has not reviewed the UK7700 series yet. But I've heard from several people the picture quality is superb.

Damn I've heard that too that IPS panels are better comparatively. I got the R617 for $552 as part of eBay's 15% off deal yesterday and this is only $27 more. I'm wondering which one would be a better option at this point but couldn't find many reviews on this series for some reason...

The code is dead now so I wouldn't worry about it too much. But the retail on yours is $649 or $699

The retail on mine started @ &1099 now it shows $999, and I got it for $492 Smilie

Haha I wouldnt worry about the retail tag price. Cant compare the 2 like that but you certainly got a very good deal. Let's hope my VA panels wont disappoint.

BeachCamera (eBay seller) probably waited until midnight on purpose to avoid the 15% code

Thanks to OP, I was able to use it before it expired.

VA > IPS > TN
Quality VA panels provide a far superior picture to IPS except in viewing angle.
VA panels have multiple times better contrast ratio, much deeper blacks, more uniform black, do not have IPS glow, and are less likely to cloud highlights. Modern VA panels also have equivalent color reproduction to IPS, which used to be another IPS strong point. No amount of local dimming can make an IPS panel approach the image quality of a VA panel.
