Gosh you know I have an internal BluRay optical drive with my current laptop but USB 3.0 is good and the price is good so for either any of the newer devices that have seen fit to do away with optical drives or to do copies of CD's like I used to do 100 at a time with music CD's from the library I could easily do that with the laptop where you don't usually have multiple optical drives. For the price the options for use are just so many. Now a deal on an external BluRay drive would be pretty sweet to see.

wow, those are pretty bad reviews. And note that the warnings suggest you shouldn't buy this if you're planning to use it with a machine running windows 10 (!!!)

I especially like note 1:
"NOTE - 1. Please contact us if the indicator is off when you connect it with your computer."
Pretty sure they're saying please contact us if it doesn't work... I imagine a lot of them have to be delivered inoperable if there's a note on the product page about it...

CD/DVD drives cannot read/write at 5Gbps. Shitty marketing attempt mentioning USB 3 theoretical max speeds of 5Gbps when the user will never see anything over 32MB/s (DVD at 24x) which is well within the USB 2 specs.

I've been using this external CD/DVD writer [amazon.com] since I got my iMac back in March. This thing has worked really well with no problems yet.

Our sales lady accidentally bought two of these for clients. One actually had a cigarette burn in the tray. We decided to investigate further and they're literally just old, dirty cd drives from old parted-out laptops thrown into a caddy.
We returned and bought LG-branded ones.
Do not buy.
