bought this recently with the trac fone service and i'm pretty impressed with the phone itself. I don't use it for my main phone, but its pretty snappy and the battery lasts forever.

Is the 50 month baked into the phone or a separate card?

I can't speak for this particular listing on Amazon, but in my experience with buying Simple Mobile phone + airtime bundles through HSN and Simple Mobile directly, the airtime is tied to the phone.

You have to activate the included SIM card in the device, then you're free to swap that active SIM into any other supported Simple Mobile phone or unlocked GSM phone as you please.

EDIT: Here's the a thread for TracFone CDMA variant of the same device (for reviews from SD members): https://slickdeals.net/f/11684375

Meh. Who doesn't own a Moto e4 - free month is cool though. Thumbs up for that.

False,
In TracFone thread, it was CDMA\LTE version (on Verizon network), this is GSM\WCDMA\LTE version on T-Mobile.
It is NOT the same device

Fyi this also works with SafeLink Wireless Service which is a government phone program. It should also work with Net 10 & Straight Talk Wireless as along as it uses TMO network.

Do you think TF is likely to have vastly different policies for its various carriers?

Correct. You don't need to unlock your phone when switching between TF carriers on the same network.

Apologies - it appears I should have been very specific Smilie

Aside from one being the CDMA TracFone/Total Wireless/Straight Talk variant (L164VL) and one being the GSM Straight Talk/Simple Mobile variant (L163BL) of the same phone - the hardware (CPU, RAM, resolution, etc.) is identical. In the fashion one might say the "same" phone with something like the LG V20, whether it was the Verizon or T-Mobile model: same specs, apart from supported bands/network. Hope this helps clear up my other post Smilie
