5 years manufacturer warranty. Is this NAS grade hard drive? How would this compare against WD Red and how is TOSHIBA hard drive quality in general?

These seem like the HGST manufactured drives - though NewEgg had the HGST ones for $90 when you bought 4 not too long ago. I recently bought 6 x P300 Toshiba 3TB drives and 1 was DOA and another one failed after 3 weeks. Ended up sending all 6 of them back to AMZ. Maybe the Even Sized drives have better reliability Smilie

The reviews on Amazon aren't great. Sounds like it's a great drive, right up until it fails early. And maybe a little loud. Maybe that will make it easier to file a warranty claim though.

But considering I plan to use it for recording my security cameras it's an acceptable risk, since I'll never keep anything older than 3 weeks on it anyway.

With WD now owning HGST or part of it and Toshiba outsourcing their manufacturing to HDST/WD - they might all be comparable. But WD Support is way better than the others and worth the extra $20-30 for drive in my opinion. Of Course - always avoid the other company that Sh!ts out of the Gate.

the MD04's are not HGST's, they were used in the Toshiba Canvio Desktop Drives for several years. only the smaller 1-3TB DT01ACAxxx were HGST-rebadged.

they've always had 128MB cache, even though the listing for some Canvio externals may have only suggested 64MB.

I can't verify if they have their info right but I would think they would

It's gone back up (at least for me) but I got it for the free expedited shipping for only a few cents more than OPs deal.
