There's now more supply than demand because the real economy is doing better. About a one million supply surplus. A question is, does prices go up faster than it goes down? If crypto-mining ventures take a hit, then there is the used market too, so that's also part of the equation. I think the answer is that prices go down faster than it can go up for a product like this. If you're in the market, you have about three or four months to save another $100 or so.

Yep. Don't fall for it. 2 years ago you could get it at this price. Video cards are usually around half of list price to be a SD after 2 years. They can't even use video cards to effectively farm, and there's more "deals" every week. I'm waiting for ebay to get flooded. Screw the video card companies for trying to nickel and dime even after demand has dropped severely.

Prices for 9 series and 7 series didn't go down. Even after launch of 10 series. This market is so well price controlled you aren't going to get a great deal unless you go used.
That was no analysis, just conjecture. 20% drop seems about right: https://www.techradar.com/news/gr...ency-slump

I own this card no way on earth did you purchase this at 500$ 2 years ago.

Not saying there hasn't been 1080s cheaper recently but its because of the mining craze has finally died down last few months(was one of them), and with the new cards on the horizon as well, causing them dropping the prices on these finally.
MSRP was $499 right? Some people got cards at MSRP right?

People's mentality of saying they paid this much over MSRP helps keep prices up. If you paid over MSRP, you got played. It's not your fault that farmers bought out stock, and sellers raised prices, but now there's no reason for these cards not to drop drastically.

I bought a RX480 for $130 shipped after MIR from Amazon one year ago. A month later prices spiked again as another round of farming started. Sold that card, and dude was happy to pay the premium. These prices for the last year are artificially high due to farming, and farming alone. Now the farmers are actually losing money running some of those cards at current electrical rates. They are basically gambling, and hoping their investments will go up one day. Cards are no longer being bought up as quickly as they get put up for sale. Farmers are going to try to recoup some of their investment, right? Ebay, etc. New cards are coming. There is also a glut of NVIDIA gpus... All signs point to prices dropping unless cryptocurrencies take off again, and current video cards can farm them. Last I checked 70% of all the various crytocurrencies were worthless (less than 1 cent each). The ones that have value can't be farmed efficiently with current gpus.

Prices are dropping. If you can hold out, might as well wait for the crash.

But 2 years it wasn't 499$. It was 599$ and 699$ for the founders edition and aftermarket cooling models. Getting that rx480 for 130$ was a steal you did good, imagine then probably nearly doubled your money selling it during that time.

I mean, that article is conjecture too. I'm basing my statements off of things that HAVE happened, not things that MIGHT happen. Board makers like Asus and msi could easily take gpus and memory from pcie cards and reball them for use in laptops. Laptops typically get new gpus 3-4 months later than desktops. Obviously it would cut into margin, but so would selling cards lower.
lol... get your money out of bitcoin and into the Russell 2000 index. If you're wondering about an exit strategy for an investment, one factor to learn is what the competition is like.

No offense, but planning takes a long time for investments, don't learn the hard way.

Yeah. I know how to invest. I bought nvidia stock in 2015 at $22/share. I'm also not talking about investments here at all. I'm talking about how this will affect consumers.

AMD/ATI cater more to the commodity market so AMD does better coming out of a downturn but prices are likely to drop across the board. Anyway, good luck with your picks.
