It appears to lack HDR, anyone know if it makes much of a difference? Sorry if I missed it.

According to TCL it's supposed to have HDR. I doubt it's a great implementation of it but should be all right. https://www.tclusa.com/products/home-theater/4-series/tcl-43-class-4-series-4k-uhd-led-roku-smart-tv-43s403

On a 43" tv I doubt you would be able to tell much difference.

If you are worried about it though Best Buy has the 43 " 5 series with hdr and Dolby vision for around 290 open box....

I'm satisfied with the 65" version of this TV for most uses. The 403 series is the same as the 405 series and the 401 series sold at other stores. It has HDR 10, but not Dolby Vision. It's not great HDR, but the response time is very good and the quality is tough to beat at this price. This implementation of HDR is compatible with the Xbox One, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix. Rtings [rtings.com] says, "HDR is average and the lack of a wide color gamut, low HDR peak brightness, and lack of local dimming doesn't make HDR content stand out."

In summation:
1. This TV can receive/interpret HDR 10 signal, but doesn't not recognize Dolby Vision.
2. Despite being able to receive the signal, it is essentially irrelevant because the TV doesn't get bright enough to match the contrast ratios required by HDR10 standards.

Haven't purchased a Tv in ages, will probably pull trigger with this deal. Any ideas on 43" v 49"? is it worth to just get the bigger one at this price?

I'm curious how the 43 inch compares to Monoprice's 2K monitors.
