Not a Bad idea, but for some reason GE is trying to charge me way more on the sales tax than anywhere in my state. I've checked the sales tax for 3 different Target's in my nearest 3 cities plus for delivery and GE's quote for sales tax is $20 more...that's insane.

Also, since this deal requires no coupon it's hard coded to give you the $50 GC. So if you find it cheaper at another store and get it price matched you'll still get the $50 GC and 5% RedCard Discount Wink

GE charges tax based on where they buy it rather than your local tax rate. I read this in another deal thread.

Correct. Very few people understand this. Then again, Google should be forthcoming in explaining how their sales tax is calculated.

My local target said I could either price match or get the $50 GC but not both. The target you work at is different?

Yes it's different it's hard coded in the registers so there's no way to cancel the GC. There are two types of GC with purchase methods. Ones that require a coupon from the weekly ad or Target App which we can't do with price matching, and those that are hard coded (usually Buy 5 of something get a GC or Buy a Console Get a GC) that do go with price matching since no coupon is involved. Also, since I work in Guest Services I've read the FULL Target Price Match Policy which doesn't say anywhere that you cannot get the GiftCard with purchase AND Price Match. Only that you cannot use a Target Coupon and Price Match.

It would be different if you were price matching and had to use a Target Coupon to receive the GC (like the current $5 GC for $20 Health/Beauty).

If anyone tells you otherwise I'd ask for the GSTL (Guest Services Team Lead) and ask them to show you where it says you cannot in Target's Policy. I swear some people just like to make their own rules and feel power.

Sorry that happened!

I've checked and there's nowhere within 500 miles that sells it for that sales tax rate (nowhere in my state). It seems the sales tax rate they're charging me is over 10% ($51.80 sales tax on $499.99) nowhere in my state goes over 7.75% and within my 50 mile radius it's 7.25%.

I don't really understand why they'd buy them all at such a high sales tax rate.

So let me get this straight:

GE can buy them at whatever sales tax rate (whether very high or very low) and resell them to you at that rate which may be higher or lower than your state's sales tax rate?

I thought you're supposed to be charged sales tax based on where it's being shipped. Also, when I search on GE it says what items are "in stock for my zip code" leading one to believe they are getting them from (or at least within 50 miles of) my zip code.

The Xbox One X there's no way it's coming from anywhere other than CA with that sales tax rate which is nearly 2,000 miles away.

Thanks for the info. In my experience, it is just not worth spending a half hour arguing about it. The manager is simply going to say no most of the time.

No GE charges tax based upon where they buy it and then adjusts the tax rate to your local % once the item ships.
