That's a really solid deal. I placed a preorder for the ronin-s... but this is really tempting.

I have this for my GH5 and I love it. It is a huge improvement over the Version 2 of the first Crane. I just wish the focus follow worked on Panasonic like it does on my Canon 5D Mark III.

What lenses do you use with this? I also have a GH5 but use the first gen of the crane and some lenses are too heavy for it Frown I am thinking about upgrading to the Ronin S

Warning: this thing is really heavy itself so consider your arm strength and how much are you into the video thing.

With the release of the Ronin S at a retail price of $699, I speculate that the Zhiyun Crane 2 will have to lower their MSRP of $750 to stay competitive.

I own a Zhiyun Crane 2. The build quality is fantastic and I really like the case it comes with. The focus wheel doesn't work well with my Canon 24-70 2.8L II lens, which is the lens I mostly use for videography.

I'm interested in getting the Ronin S for the simple fact that you can go from normal grip to an overhand grip without a problem. If you try that with the Crane 2, you will get gimbal shake and even the manual states that that will happen. The ability of the Ronin S to do that without it spazzing out gives you much more freedom for creative shots.

Same question from anyone with 1st hand experience with both please?

I have seen great reviews on both but the comparison videos are still to be desired

It's about time, I am in the market for a new gimbal and trying to decide between this and the Ronin-S. If this was the price a month ago, I would have gone with this. Then again, I have no idea when my Ronin S will get shipped. Now I have to think about canceling the Ronin S. I actually like this more with the smaller batteries. Who wants to carry around 12 hours of batteries on their gimbal, even if I needed it for 12 hours in 1 day, I would much rather change them a few times then carry a heavier gimbal. Plus this has every feature I want in a gimbal. But on the other hand, I see people who have owned both saying that they get better footage with the Ronin S. And at the end of the day, that is really all that matters, I'm going to stick with it.

I mainly use the Lumix X Vario 12-35MM f2.8 II with my GH5, but I also use my Canon glass with a metabones adapter. This newer Crane 2 can handle up to almost 8 pounds (basically a gallon of milk) and I was able to mount and balance my Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-105mm F4 IS II USM Lens without trouble.

FYI as part of the industry I'll share this incite:

DJI just released the Ronin S gimbal which blew away the entire industry with a gimbal that arguably is 2x better features, more accessories free and smoother footage than the Crane 2 ($750 with no follow focus) and was cheaper (Ronin S $699 and included follow focus). Every review has been insane and even from my personal use of it, it's an amazine gimbal. It's been sold out/back ordered since release and still is today. The prices are almost double on eBay. Zhiyun had to respond by giving away the $150 follow focus for free and lower their price to stay in competition and as we see today drop the price even lower. Even with this lower price point, I would still say the DJI Ronin S at full retail price of $699 is a better investment due to the massive amount of features, better accessories included, and significantly easier use to shoot more creative shots.

This is still a good deal, but do your research and consider waiting for the significantly better gimbal at a slightly higher price. Worst case honestly, I think the Crane 2's price will drop even lower once more Ronin S's get produced and put on the market. So if you don't need it today consider waiting!

These handheld stabilizers are great but they will give you sore arms for the next couple of days if you are shooting video for over an hour.
