LOVE Shannara, I wish they would make more seasons of the TV show. This is a great deal for the books.

The acting in the TV show was pretty hot garbage IMO but I'm interested enough in the concept to give these books a shot at this price. Thanks!

Great books. I really think this trilogy are the only books from the series worth reading. After them, Brooks's writing and creativity take a huge nosedive. I plodded through a couple more but they were unbearable and I never went back. Part of the issue was Brooks leaving once storyline as a cliffhanger and then never going back to the story until the next book. It is a case of too much of a good thing.

This is a great deal for the books. If you have a high tolerance for poor writing you can keep reading the series after you finish this trilogy.

I read these like 30 years ago. Loved them. Didn't really recognize the huge similarities to Tolkein, but no matter. They are awesome in their own right.

I thought the "Heritage" series was pretty good. I also enjoyed the first few books in the "Landover" series. I actually thought the "worst" writing was in Sword of Shannara.

These are the first 3 books he wrote, so you'll see the evolution of his story telling. Sword gets the most criticism however I find it feels like a classic adventure tale, but it probably doesn't hurt I read it first as a youngster 30 years ago. There are many prequels to this trilogy in the Shannara world which tie together the modern day urban fantasy "Word and Void" series with the Shannara universe. Reading them again I realized what I didn't as a youth (or I didn't care), the ties to our earth were there all along. The Shannara world begins in apocalyptic earth. Some books are vastly superior to others but they are such easy and fast reads it's no chore to move the story along.

If you get through Wishsong and want more, try the prequel "First King of Shannara". It is more polished than the original Trilogy.

I agree, the Sword didn't have as good writing but it was at least an enjoyable story for me. Later books weren't written much better but stories that were too much of th same. I moved on to Sanderson and Jordan instead.

I was not impressed with the TV show, though watched it. Ugh. Adolescent emo.

There were parts that were good - I liked the druid and some other things.

One of the best series I've ever read. Also check out Terry Goodkind for the Sword of Truth series. Great books and lots of reading to be had.
