I mentioned this in the Costco thread for those wanting additional sensors/motion detectors but I figured I would start it's own thread since there will be lots of people wanting to get extra sensors to personalize their own homes who bought the new Ring Security Alarm system. I think this is a great deal for a newly released item for 25% off!

Google Express has a 25% off code "EXTRA25" on your order up to $100 off.

Alarm/Door/Window Sensor $19.99 - 25% = $14.99

Motion Detector $29.99 - 25% = $22.49

Hopefully they add the system from Costco on the 13th to Google Express.

How are these sensors in comparison to Samsung SmartThings ?
I'm trying to limit all the mixed brands of things in the house to go with one eco system. The only thing I have in my house now is Philip's hue, and an Alexa dot. I wish to add security as my next step. So many choices out there.
I don't care for integration with appliances, as all of them are recent, and lack the ability anyway.

Samsung has the startup kit floating around for $150. 2 door or window sensors, motion sensor, hub, and a smart outlet. Seems like a nice deal.

Any advice ? Thanks,

The system is fairly so other than initial reviews I don't think you can get a lot of feedback.
From what I can tell you can't just add any z-wave sensor to it, nor would you be able to get IFTT or Smartthings "integration" to have things trigger off of sensors / motion sensors in the Ring system.

Ring said they are adding integration in the future, but no one knows how much / when that would be available, or how that is done.

Keep in mind SmartThings is really for home automation, which is different than security.
Biggest difference from the Smartthings pack would be stuff like: Keypad, alarm, monitoring...you can try Samsung with ADT, but that is not $150...
Most of the cheap sensors are Zigbee also for what's its worth.

There are other systems that supposedly can work with some ecosystems, Tofu Vic did a great review thread here:

Thanks. I'll give the Smartthings a try. I don't feel like paying a company to monitor my home. I would rather setup my own way, and alert system.

You don't have to pay for monitoring, just FYI.. but for $100/year including unlimited cloud for cameras, I think it's a good deal..

Just for those that are buying a high number of sensors, you don't really need a window sensor on the 2nd floor windows. A motion detector at the traffic locations should suffice and take the place of window sensors to help cut down on cost.

Get yourself these window door sensors
https://slickdeals.net/f/11571503-visonic-mct-340-e-wireless-door-window-temperature-sensor-2-4ghz-zigbee-now-15-free-s-h?src=SiteSearch they sometimes go on sale on slickdeals for as low as $10 each.
Don't get their motion detectors though, as not highly popular with users on here.
I own about 7 of the visonic window door sensors, and 3 samsung smarthings window door sensors and one samsung smarthings motion sensor (one prior to current model). I know you said you were keen to keep to one brand, but I also run hue and an ecobee and a GE z wave light switch all with smartthings hub and don't have any problems.

the samsung window/door sensors are a little "smarter" than the visonic ones as the samsung ones allows you to tell smartthings that the sensor is being used on a garage door and hence uses a tiltometer for extra functionality.
If you search the thread I linked to and other visonic posts for prior deals you will see their price is essentially unbeatable.

Hope this helps?

Are these sensors compatible with ST? Do they use standard zwave protocol?

AFAIK, non-Ring sensors will cause a z-wave action but will not trigger the Ring alarm
