Bestbuy also has it for $35 and you get the PLEX 6-month pass included in that.

Their prime day specials are usually sort of meh... but I will say that it's been cheaper if you count gift cards as cash. I got one from Newegg for $40 with 10$ GC.

Why would you by this now when they will be $25 or less on Prime Day? I think I got one for around $16 last year by ordering it from another Alexa device.

It will be $29.99 on Prime day. Its on the sheet that I've personally seen, (former IT Manager at Amazon, and still friends with many people in various departments.)

I own both. Yes, they both turn off lights but the echo's response time is way faster and with brief mode enabled it just beeps to acknowledge. Google will give you a ten word response every time, it's so annoying. Many people have posted about this in the Google home product forums.

If you're a prime member already the echo has way more access to music without paying for Spotify or YouTube red.

Google definitely is more capable of answering questions or anything else you would Google search the answer to.

I own both the Echo Dot & Google Home and have found the Google Home to be superior as an information source on just about any subject. They are both competent at controlling my lights and thermostat but I find the Google Home to be more useful in playing videos on my TV, or listening to music from a variety of sources than the Echo Dot is capable of. I would have rated the Dot 3.5 stars if the review mechanism allowed for it. Given the fact that the Google Home just came out this past January I find it astonishing at just how fast it has added new capabilities. In the future I believe that the Echo will slowly lose it's dominant position, as the Google Home continues to add new and innovative abilities. Bottom line if you only want to control your lights and thermostat either device will do a good job.
