Yes, there are a lot of issues. I forgot where I read it. Maybe reddit? Someone vacuum guy said they had TONS of Dyson issues and does not recommend them.

Edit (he says in one post; read his AMA's for more thorough input): Not a big fan of either. The Kirby lasts forever, but has shit filtration. The Dysons have shit airflow, choke on everything, and fall apart with ease.

Edit 2: From the first AMA: *Edit: I've been asked to post my personal preferences with regard to brands. As I said before, there is no bad vacuum; Just vacuums built for their purpose. That being said, here are my brand choices in order:

Miele for canisters

Riccar for uprights

Hoover for budget machines

Sanitaire or Royal for commercial machines

Dyson if you just can't be talked out of a bagless machine.

Not to be rude, but the Dysons made 10 years ago are a whole nother ballgame vs the ones made in the last 5 years.

Edit: I had a filter on... new post:

There are a lot of refurb units for sale from Dyson. Makes me wonder if they have issues?

I've had my Dyson for 10+ years and would certainly buy another.

Worst vacuum I have ever owned, was this model. All it does is push dirt around the floors. Takes half a dozen passes to pick up items off the rug.

I own a DC33 and one of their hand helds. Never had any issues with it and it still cleans fine. Ive cleaned the hepa filters maybe once and still works so....

last 2 dysons i bought lasted no more than 5 years. i have a 3rd one now, which is only a year old because wife said she wanted a dyson again (which is built like crap compared to the older ones). i just bought 2 budget hoovers that clean just as well as the dyson. they are way over priced and the number of refurb dyson units out there should make you question how well they are built.

We've bought Shark vacuums the last two times and they both still work great to this day.

One is white and red with headlights standard bagless shape vacuum.

The other one is like a Shark Ultralight Truepet we bought one refurb and one brand new.

Not a single issue except one was missing an attachment I called and they sent me a replacement and a bonus attachment free of any charge and it was the refurb unit they supported.

They just asked for the serial number engraved in the metal plug that goes into the outlet.

I also found out Shark and Magic/Baby Bullet are the same parent company.

Bought this same refurb model from a previous eBay sale. Excellent vacuum for the price.

i got a broken refurb dyson. They use a tiny plastic clip to hold the handle to the body.
