I have the Monoprice Maker Select V2.1. Looking for another printer, is it solid to pick this up?

This seems like a pretty decent, SUPER BUDGET printer.
It will probably do a decent job printing small and simple objects.
- You will get what you pay for -

The build area is small, but really not bad for this price.
I think this would be a good 'first printer' if you're on a tight budget or buying for a child.
If you are fairly certain you will like the hobby, I suggest you increase your budget to around $300. There are much better value printers at this price point.

I don't have a problem with reviewers being provided review units. The reviewer has a responsibility to inform their audience of this and to inform us if their videos were reviewed by the company ahead of time. I don't expect a small reviewer to be able to afford a lot of products to review on their own. Especially now that YouTube has become so unreliable in their ad revenue sharing. This is a great price and this is an update of a well reviewed item from a respected company in this hobby. Tu if I could get away with it I'd buy it today but SD already has me in trouble atm.

I think there is a common misperception that these are as simple to operate as an inkjet printer. Most 3D printers require a bit of tuning (platform balancing, optimizing layer heights, etc), a bit of problem solving (filament clogs, etc). Knowing those going into it, this is a fantastic deal for a first 3D printer. Like the other posts hint at, $300 or so will get you printers with larger build volumes, heated stages (necessary for ABS plastic, not for PLA), and other features that you can compare side by side at monoprice.com or a separate review site. I may get it and sell off my larger, older printer as it's small footprint would be better for my small space. The price point and the support from monoprice is pretty darn good.

These are the v1s aka old inventory being blown out. V2 is $200 and likely more worth it.

There is a great sub Reddit for owners and a wiki @ mpselectmini. I've been looking to get a v2 to supplement my Prusa MK2 for small prints and will likely get a v2 for improvements.
Actually these aren't. These are new (this year, anyway) rebranded clones [microcenter.com]of the Wanhao mini i3. The MP mini v1 is a different printer. These are potentially even worse (no heated bed, so truly PLA only) but cheaper.

The MP mini v2 is probably a better choice for anyone who doesn't know what they're getting into, there's a huge community built up around it.

It might be worth it for a totally cheap ass PLA printer, but honestly there's better out there for not much more if you're willing to assemble it. I've heard that the Creality Ender 3 is getting good reviews for the price and can be found fairly cheap as kits, if you're willing to wait on shipping from China.

Even at the US prices, you get a *lot* more for your money.

Hehe, if I didn't have a MP mini v1 that I use, I'd have probably made the same mistake D: but yes, more sleep!

Granted, for anyone buying something to take it out of the box, maybe run a test print, then leave in the attic for the rest of time, this is definitely a good price for something that actually prints :p
