FreedomPop Update

FreedomPop has been subject to targeted abuse by users leveraging multiple accounts to aggregate additional free data. We have tried to battle the abuse by adding conditions around accounts with no data usage over several months, but unfortunately we have been forced to limit the friends sharing program.

Please note that going forward with your next billing cycle, you will earn 5MB/month per friend with a max cap of 50MB/month on earned data or shared data.

Sucks. Got the same email. This is gonna hurt. I only have 3 Freedompop phones/hotspots, but now I may need to try and get more to cycle through them through the month.

Was this 'expired' because it's not true? If not I don't understand why the thread was closed.

Expired?

Thread still seems open as I can post to it.

Either way it is true and you can confirm it on Freedompop's website I linked to above

This makes the LTE SIMs and Global SIMs nearly worthless to me. 250 MB per month!?! It was a good ride while it lasted. The data from "friends" was never a guarantee nor promise. I cannot be too upset, just disappointed.

I'll probably move to Xfinity Mobile or some other low cost solution for 1 GB of data per month. I just wish that I had a Verizon compatible phone now.

Any recommendations? Is FreedomPop worth paying for now?

Yeah this really sucks but it is what it is I suppose. I think I know the answer but am I correct to assume that this will affect everyone or only select targeted accounts? Meaning if I haven't received the email is there a chance I won't be affected or is it guaranteed regardless?

There was no email sent, they updated the support page and it affects everyone. In UK, they sent email cancelling all free accounts and upgrading to paid account - https://www.reddit.com/r/freedomp...vice_from/

It's been really nice not having a cell phone bill for the last couple years, but I think it's finally time to start looking for a conventional prepaid service provider. I rarely use over 500 GB per month, but it's nice knowing it's there if I need it.

Thank you so much for sharing those deals. I especially I'm interested in the yearly plan with 1GB through FreedomPop. Fact that it's on sale at Target right now makes it even more attractive plus using the Target red card will sweeten the deal even more. Thank you!

Target didn't have any reviews of this yearly FP plan, but Best Buy has quite a few reviews and the consensus is quite good 4.7 out of 5.0 (link [bestbuy.com]). I think this is the solution for us. It certainly seems like the best deal going. Target's sales ends on Saturday evening, so I better decide soon.

The 1GB Freedompop deal does look good, but does anyone know if they need to get a credit card on file to charge for overages???

I went with the RedPocket $60/year when it was on sale for $44 after coupon, and they don't require a credit card, they just turn off the data when you go over 500MB, which is nice with kids cause they can't go over.

If Freedompop works this way, I will definitely pick up another. But while I used to be on freedompop I would always worry about overages.

Since all the big changes on the free accts I would like to put in a request for a plan that is missing from your line-up.

1000 Minutes or Unlimited?
1000 Text or Unlimited?
500 MB Data
Voicemail/MMS
$25.00 Prepaid Annual Plan

Why not turn more folks into paying customers that need a simple/affordable annual plan that fits between your current 1GB annual plan & these new changes that drops peoples free plans to 250MB's a month?

Nope, no credit card required for 12 month prepaid plan activation. I am not sure of overages as I never went over the limit, as 1 GB/month was enough for me. Maybe they will suspend the account if overage and not paid? I will PM FreedomPop Rep and post when they reply back
