Amazing book if you like sci-fi on the more intellectual spectrum.

My favorite sci fi series of all time. Also if anyone is interested Dan Simmons also wrote the book The Terror which is what the new AMC TV show is based on.

I've read them all and didn't come away very impressed. Not the kind of science fiction that successfully results in "suspension of disbelief" like Michael Crichton or even James Corey.

Writing style is good, just found the story a little odd. To each his own, but that's my $.02.

The Terror is worth watching for the beautiful subdued colors and compelling characters. It's also nice to see that two alums from Game of Thrones are getting work in the off season.

Picked up the kindle and audible versions of Hyperion. Thanks, OP.

I noticed good reviews about the series. Got all the audiobooks some time back. Planning to start the series soon.

Though this post is certainly appreciated, one observation in general (and not a critical comment on this particular deal), is that it's hard to get excited about a discount on the first book of a linear 'non-episodic' series. The first books of such series are often on sale cause they serve as hooks to reel you into buying rest of the higher priced books. I have audible membership, and I've observed over the years that most of their sales are littered with first entries of a multi-part linear story.

Deals on series with individual 'episodic' entries (that don't necessarily have to always read in order) are better liked. I've read a few of Harry Bosch and Jack Reacher books this way. But they are less of a 'hook'.

I wish amazon/Audible would start putting an entire series on a discount. I think a lot folks would be interested in picking those up instead of their usual sale scheme.

This is one of the most memorable audiobooks I've listened to. Not just because the story is good, but also because it uses a cast of multiple people to do the voices.

They do the same thing with a lot of TV series... first season (or, worst case, first episode) is free, then the subsequent ones are totally overpriced.

I have this series on Audible. I enjoyed it although you have to also not be too critical from time to time. There are some plot holes but it was still very enjoyable and it had some neat/unique things in it as well as some spots where you really had to sit back and think about things to really understand them.

Definitely was worth the money and I'll re-listen to them again in a few years.

Of course series would be ideal, but I'll take a first series book on sale any day as long as it's a deal. I have discovered quite a few great authors just from Slickdeals posts about the first book in a series being discounted.

If I genuinely like an author, I have no problem supporting them by paying full price for the rest of their books. The time investment to cost return on books is insane. $8 for 30 hours of entertainment? Sign me up. Getting a discounted first book is just a good way to give people a chance to see if they like the author well enough to continue the series.

A well-regarded series like this likely has all the audible books available at local libraries. Or the print versions are certainly available.

One of the most memorable and well written series I've had the pleasure to read. Easy recommendation.
