They just had this a month or so ago, but with 3 room sensors.

It was the Ecobee 3. Not the Lite. And it was $10 cheaper. This is still a great deal either way. Customer service at Ecobee is great. Also, the thermostat controls both my central AC unit, and my boiler, which is my separate heating unit. My Nest wouldn't/couldn't do that.

I have an Ecobee 4 that I have been holding off installing because I'm not sold on the Alexa...I'm probably past the point of returning to the store where it was purchased, but...this is really tempting.

Am I losing anything other than Alexa by going with this over the 4?

AFAIK, No. You are not.

That older model was the full featured version, with three sensors, versus the lite version in this deal with two.

Having said that the differences are that the ecobee3 lite does not support accessories (HRVs, ventilators, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers) and doesn't have a motion sensor to detect motion within the area. That may or may not matter to you. See here [ecobee.com]

Furthermore, that last deal was Costco clearance of old stock that likely will not return (at least not at that store).

Saw someone mentioned it but wanted to reiterate... their customer service is exceptional. I had an issue hooking mine up last year when I got it, and they were instantly on the phone talking me thru it, and had me text them pictures of my wires in my setup, etc.

So I think it's true that the 3 lite has no motion detection on the main unit whereas the 3 "nonlite" does. Can someone tell me whether the room sensors included with the 3 lite have motion detection?

I think lite does not support motion sensor as many of you said. Also, no geofencing feature which uses your GPS on phone to determine if you're home or away.
Imo, the older but full featured model ecobee 3 is better value.

Ecobee 4 has Alexa but I heard if you have another Alexa device nearby, they will both respond. This would be kinda annoying.

I had my friend who has a 3 lite check his and he has geofencing via mobile app so are you sure about this?

Let me search it again. I just remember reading about the difference somewhere.

Looks like they work thru ifttt.
Thanks for heads up. Now I might consider the lite.
