Thanks.

Though I will say, buying a used knife is questionable. Depending on what kind of surface it was used on - plastic, teak etc, the knife may not even be a shadow of its past now.

Do you own a knife sharpener?

Wusthof knives are quality steel and can be sharpened and honed back to their original state. Unless the knife is completely smashed or damaged, there shouldn't be an issue. I'd rather buy a $110 used knife for $40, than a $40 new knife.

Watch this video of a guy sharpening a dollar store knife to the point that it can slice 3 plastic bottles:

Point being, you should invest in a knife sharpening kit in addition to investing in quality steel for the maximum benefit. You should also be sharpening your knives frequently, especially before heavy use.

Perfect timing, thanks!. I just ordered one for my son-in-law for his birthday next week. He has been looking for a good knife!

That was fast. Was hoping to get feedback from those who got it before buying.

FYI, I received my order from the seller and am pretty sure it's a fake. I sent pictures to Wusthof and they say "the etching doesn't look authentic" from the photos I provided to them. They have asked me to send the knife in for analysis. I will update my posting after they complete their tests.

Any results from Wusthof yet? I got one and it looked unused other than some minor scuff on the handle - as if it was a store display model. Even came in a nice box that has a tear in it - again, as if it came from a sotre display. I haven't used it yet, but am curious of what the test result shows. Please let me know. Thanks.

I got a reply from Wusthof this morning. They did indeed confirm it is a counterfeit.

I attached a picture of the knife I received from the seller on eBay. There is light scratching on the handle in the area I circled. You can't really see it in the photo though. I knew it was too fishy that all their knives being sold were like new blades with light scratching on the handles. They are obviously making these fakes and just using something to put the scratches in to the handles to make it look slightly used/damaged so that most people would not question it and just assume they got lucky and got a great looking knife for cheap. Be sure to contact the seller and get your money back. It looks like Wusthof is going to go after the seller cause they requested my eBay transaction receipt and link to the auction page.

wow!!

Also, looks like seller is covering up! Seller has edited the title of the item on July 18 from "Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Chef's Knife" to simply "Knife". All photos were also removed. Item no longer being sold. Wusthof (and we) may have a tough time going after this seller, who also seems to leave negative feedbacks and not returning full payments. Let me know how your retrun goes.

I got a refund from the seller already after I told them what Wusthof stated. They didn't even ask for the knife back. The original eBay transaction and PayPal transaction show the original title of the auction and I'm sure that is what Wusthof will use to go after them. I would definitely recommend putting in a refund request through eBay immediately if you have not already.
