Southwest Airlines to Match Your Elite Status From Another Airline for 90 Days

+12 Deal Score
5,997 Views
Southwest Airlines will match your elite status from another airline to A-List. With A-list, you may board earlier and earn 25% more points. Even get to hop on an earlier flight.

All you've got to do is provide proof of your status on another airline and your name and Rapid Rewards® number, and Southwest will give you tier status for 90 days. Then just fly three round trips with your new A-List perks, and Southwest will extend that A-List for the next 12 months. Seriously.

Do they have first class equivalent seats ? Otherwise, what are you really getting? A yippee to board first which basically means you will be extending your in-cabin experience by 15 - 20 minutes.

Well, for one, a 25% earning bonus on points. Second, A-List can board after A group, regardless of their boarding assignment. Which can be huge if you're traveling with others and want to ensure you can sit together without paying the early boarding fee. And last, it's free, so it's a no-brainer if you have status with another airline.

Nope. Nor do they charge for checked bags even without status.

pretty much, yeah.

And you can get functionally similar boarding positions either with early bird (using one of the billion incidental credits cards offer) or simply checking in as soon as it opens for it.

Oh, you also get priority security lane access- but given there's about 973 credit cards that already give free GE/Precheck everyone paying attention should already have that too.

That said- it's free, so guess if you have any SW flights in the next 90 days you didn't already have early bird on, might as well do it.

I certainly wouldn't spend a dime on any "extra" flights I wasn't otherwise taking to retain the status past 90 days though.

Neat promotion, but A list is very easy to obtain.

How would you suggest easily obtaining it? I'm asking as someone with 5 months left of my companion pass.

It's better than nothing. I've always found that if I check in right at 24 hours in advance that I'm always in A group and don't have a problem getting seats together.

If you fly enough, this will change. Especially if you have connections, which Southwest normally does. I usually pay for Early bird and sometimes will still get B. Connections out of Las Vegas can be killer.

Flights out of Vegas are always full. Any major route that SW flies, I struggle to get A even when checking in immediately. This is mostly in CA.
