Just picked mine up for $30 a couple weeks ago via Best Buy.
This thing is great I've seen it barking at me and Target electrical aisle this whole year but the demo kiosk doesn't do it justice, its one of the best games or board games I've played in a long time.

If anybody has an idea about the booster card packs how to get those cheap, let us know.

How does it work. This is the lowest price I've seen on it in a while. I've heard nothing but good things, but really unsure how to actually play.

I also want to know. All I know about it is that you play cards and it automatically mixes the two songs together. I imagine that it's some sort of judge scoring system but I've never seen the rulebook.

The Amazon page says that there are 3 ways to play: Party, Clash (competitive mode?), and Freestyle. I wanna know what makes Party different from Freestyle and how one would win a Clash.

Got mine at Best buy last week same price. Played it at a friend's and waited for that good price drop.
Got most of the add-on packs from Hasbros online shop. They had a 20% off promo code that helped with the price.

Problem comes that one pack is (or WAS) a toys r us exclusive. The 'Bomb' playlist pack exclusive is still available at toys r us in Canada but hasbro/Harmonix have not mentioned(to my knowledge) any re-release in the states.

Also the 3 awesome convention promo cards are priced at outrageous prices on eBay.

Thats the opposite of the majority of opinions I hear. What board games are fun to you?

The reviews I've read say it's an amazing, fun game. But the price of entry for the base game and all the cards is steep.

I picked up the base game from the BB deal, waiting for cards to get cheap too so I can flesh out the collection.

There seem to be 3 generations and 2 ways of packaging expansion packs. At full price this puts individual cards at $1/ea.
  1. 15 cards "Playlist Pack" by a specific genre - Amazon [amazon.com] has a deal on the Pop expansion but reviewers say it's a bit repetitive. I hear a lot of people really enjoy the Country genre, even the Country-haters.
  2. 5-card Discover pack. Each pack is different, organized by genre, but Bestbuy and Amazon seem intent on keeping a mystery of what they will ship, so you could get duplicate packs. Bestbuy [bestbuy.com] has a deal on packs for $3.49.

If you're curious about the rules, I would download the DropMix app and watch the tutorial video. The game doesn't actually come with a full rule book so the app is how you learn the game anyway.

In short, you get points for playing cards and there is a "level" mechanic that controls when you can play a card. You can also hit a button on the board which allows you to remove some of your opponent's cards from the board. You set your phone next to the board and it keeps score for you automatically as you play and tells you whose turn it is. The electronics in this game are really pretty awesome.

Overall, I think replayability is pretty low but it is a neat gadget and definitely something I would pull out with a big group of people over just to mess around with it.

Bought it from Best Buy for the same price last week and had a get together at home where we all enjoyed the game. The rules of the game are simple. You have to download the DropMix app from a smartphone or table and it gives you a tutorial (or it can be looked up on YouTube). The smart phone or tablet connect to the board via bluetooth and the sound also comes from your smart device (we used a Bluetooth speaker connected to my phone) for better quality. Game could be 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2; whoever gets to 21 points. There's also free mode where you just put cards to hear different mixes, then there's party mode which I haven't played yet.

Like you said, the way you play this depends on the modes.

Clash is either 1v1 or 2v2. First team to get to 21 points wins.

Party mode can be up to 5 people (or more if you have more cards) and is the coop mode of the game. You follow the prompts on the phone/tablet app to score such as "put a blue card down" or "put down a vocal card".

Freestyle is just putting down cards to make sweet mixes to save.
