These are great seats. I have a Rainier and a Radian RXT. Both are great but the Rainier is a bit wide at the top, which may create a problem if you want to put two or three seats in a row in smaller vehicles. The Radian RXT is sold as "3-wide" compatible in most vehicles.

Forget ever taking this thing on a plane if you need to rear face unless you have a bulkhead seat. Personally I would suggest leaving it home for plane travel and get a cheap Cosco Scenera for that purpose.

We have traveled twice with Diono radian rxt (which is very similar in size to Rainier) and never had any issues in "non bulkhead" seats. Once was southwest and 2nd time was Frontier.
I would say these are awesome if you want to take in a plane.

if its available to you, select to pay with amex, select to use at least $1 in rewards. At checkout you should see the 20%

Can I ask why you guys decided for this instead of uppababy or nuna? New dad here and have no idea where to start. I bought a Chicco but am looking for a second seat.

Also interested in the answer to this. Will shortly need to "upgrade" from our Nuna Pipa to a convertible.

this is a convertible seat. the uppababy or nuna are meant to be infant car seats. I personally used the uppababy with my two kids as infants and then moved them over to the radian rxt once they outgrew the uppababy. on a side note, my radian rxt did include the infant inserts, i just kept them in the infant seat because it seemed more secure at the time. these days in the hot summer im sure my kids appreciate the openess of these seats. I have a graco as a spare and that also seems to enclose the child, causing them to sweat profusely and be uncomfortable. its no fun driving around with a toddler yelling at the top of their lungs because they are hot.

Because those are millennial hipster garbage.

These seats are the real deal. Protect your kids instead of making sure they're "hip".

This. Except, we've taken these (Rainiers) on planes without issue - they're just a tad bulky and heavy. We use an accessory to add wheels so our toddlers can sit in them throughout the airport and we just pull them around. They love it! Agreed on the RXT being better for going 3 wide, most likely best for SUVs or larger.
We now use two Cosco brand lightweight car seats (from Walmart).

Best in class for child safety and weight/height requirements. Basically, longevity on this thing rocks. Google best convertible car seats, this is right there at the top on rankings.

I need a car seat for a 3 year old who will be behind the driver seat in a pretty tight cabin. Is this one short in seat length; would it be good for this? I'm tall so I have to have my driver's seat pushed back quite a bit.

There are also straps available to wear the seats as backpacks from what I found a while back.
