I recently bought a Ryzen 7 2700x, first time going AMD ever.

Let me tell you, the Ryzen chips are incredible. You lose a little bit of clock speed with the 5, but it'll still shred.

The 5 is more than adequate for the latest games, and then some. Just be sure you update your motherboard firmware for optimal preformance

Combine this with the Front page deal for a RX 580 w/ the ASRock board and you have a great start for a mid-range.

Can't this be had for $150 with the 25% google express coupon right now? Unless my math is wrong or the coupon is over.

Yes. Well, almost Big Grin

Google Express killed the promo early (max # of redemptions were reached, it was supposed to run until the 17th).

https://express.google.com/u/0/pr...71_6136318

If the coupon were still active, Google Express would charge tax on $199.99 (the pre-coupon price) even if Fry's doesn't normally charge your state tax Frown Newegg still doesn't charge tax to shoppers in a lot of states (at least for now).

In addition, it would have been a coupon worth using on most anything you might want on Google Express; whereas this coupon is valid on just this one item. My thoughts on it, anyway Smilie

Would this be better than R7 1700?

Depends if you need the extra 2 cores, or a 300-400 mhz speed increase with more power savings.

you can overclock 1700 to 3.4 to match easily but zen+ has boost on all cores that 1700 doesn't. If your only/mostly gaming the 2600 is better

Assuming that the 1700 can be OC to 3.7 on all cores with relative ease on the stock cooler, I'll say stick with the 1700 and wait till zen2.
