Got a BNIB Duromax 2000w inverter from eBay recently for $295 after discount, looks exactly the same as this one accept it's blue. It is certainly not 51dB though, it's rated at 61dB at 7m which means more like 70dB standing next to it, while certainly not loud compared to normal generators, it's certainly not nearly as quite as the Honda 2000w inverter that I heard in person which is what made me want to get a inverter generator in the first place. If that Honda 2200 inverter ever go on sale for under $800, i'm going to scoop it up and sell this one during a hurricane to help pay for the Honda.

I've often thought of the same plan. But I might get two WENs instead. I can basically get two for the price of a honda

I agree and is why I bought the Duromax Duel Fuel at $295 shipped, could have easily bought 3 AND the parallel kit for the cost of the Honda, but while not loud compared to a normal generator, the sound difference between the Duromax 2000w that I bought and the 2000w I heard in person in a local park recently is not even really comparable. The Honda sounded legitimately to be around 50dB-55dB, the Duromax has got to be close to 70dB. With the way that the dB measurements scale, even 5dB or 10dB louder is quite substantial.

I'll probably try to locate my UMIC-1 this weekend and measure it myself. I'm certainly not upset about my purchase, but I would like a inverter generator that is SO quite that you can hold a comfortable conversation standing directly next to it, which I can't do with my current one and could do with the Honda I was next to a few months ago.

Good info, that would mean this WEN looks exactly the same and outputs about the same noise level as the Duromax I bought a few weeks ago, they probably all come out of the same facility as clones with different names and different colors.

I've seen the Honda's go on sale once and the vendor got in big trouble.

The duromax max is good for my needs. Occasional van camping (already have solar), backup for outages, and fun at the park with a bounce house.

I wonder if you can deaden the sound at all with some sound proofing inside? Very minimal sound proofing from the factory.

I'd be willing to bet you could, the sound of my Duromax is noticeably louder when the side cover is off. I also thought about digging my old Dynamat out of the attic and applying it to the insides. Not sure if that would act as a radiant heat barrier or something.

I would use foam over dynamat lol. Personal opinion. I have some dynamat laying around at my parents place, I applied that inside my computer case and then added another 400lbs

Ohh yea, I know all about the weight, I added about 200 pounds of it to a Honda civic about 10 years ago and it went from sounding like a tin-can to a BMW when the doors were closed.

These generators, or atleast my Duromax already have a small sheet of thin foam applied to both sides, and I am sure that helps somewhat, but I'd bet that removing the foam and adding 12"x12" square of Dynamat on each side would be even better.

Get the Wen, you won't regret it. It's quiet and runs great, haven't had a problem so far with this little generator. Let me tell you, Honda is way overpriced, and Duromax can't even compare. I'm a big fan of Wen, they make some good tools.
