Amazon Fire TV Cube for $89.99 + Tax with Free Shipping from Frys (via Google Express for new customers)

Been searching for a deal on the Amazon Fire TV Cube prior to Prime Day. After checking every day since it was released, the device finally showed up in Google Express from Fry's for $119.99
https://express.google.com/produc...51_6136318

Using the app and applying the 25% off coupon [APPFUN30] brought the price down to $89.99 + tax with free next day delivery.

This is the lowest price I've ever seen for the Amazon Fire TV Cube Streaming Media Player with Alexa & 4K UHD since it launched.

Note: Google Express deal expires 7/15. More information is available here: https://slickdeals.net/f/11518107-google-express-new-customers-additional-savings-w-app-25-off-free-s-h-on-35-max-30-discount?src=featured-c-21807-32455

Ordered through Google Express (it was my first order.) It went through smoothly. Only I was charged $12 in tax ( I live in NYC) and I was wondering if I had purchased through Amazon, would the tax have been charged. Also there was no next day delivery - estimated delivery date is July 19, 2018.

Bought on preorder. Nope no SD card slot. No direct hard wire network connection except with dongle they give you.

I am sending mine back as it does NOT do timers - one of my prime alexa uses. It cannot be in "command range" of another Alexa device.

The speaker is poor. The commands work sometimes - maybe.

No volume control on remote! It locks up regularly. And it is slower by far than my Fire 4K Gen 2.

Dont take my word - read through the 1 and 2 star reviews. This thing is half baked at best.

That and I've heard bad things about it getting overwhelmed by TV volume due to placement (unlike a Dot paired with a FireTV, where you can place the Dot closer to the couch/etc).

Unless they hold back certain commands from Dots paired with FireTVs, I can't see the point to this being a single unit instead of getting a Dot and a 4k FireTV (assuming that's what you want). The 4k FireTV already does most CEC power related commands/etc just fine.

Does the Cube do 5.1/Dolby passthrough with Kodi?

I'm debating on getting a Cube for $89 or paying double for a Nvidia Shield. Reviewers/owners of both FTV's and Shields say the Nvidia is worth the added cost when it comes to Kodi.

correct, i traded in a broken roku that was fried. the value was exactly $0. luckily i always keep broken electronic (for parts) and almost never throw them out.

this amazon trade-in deal promo is most useful only if you have a device that is worthless to you.

I have had the Fire Tv stick, regular and the shield TV. I never switched to anything else since getting the shield. There is noticeable difference in lag time if you're using Kodi. Shield seems more natural and the FTV struggles but plays videos fine once you start.
