A good rule of thumb is to back up anything you want to keep. If it is important then back it up 2 or 3 times. I back up my media, but programs I dont worry about because I can just redownload it.

Been this price from Microcenter direct for several months.

Perhaps some might avoid tax too by ordering directly from there:

I own a 'house brand' 256GB NVME x2 drive from them. It seems to work plenty fine. Its x2 but good enough.

When a SSD fails, does it just fail completely? I store most of my data on a 500gb drive, and usually they give you at least some warning before they go t*ts up.

SSD's support SMART so yes, you'll get a warning before it fails.

From experience:

1) Kingston SSD Now 60GB: Locked into read-only mode one day. No amount of nudging will convince it to be re-formatted, re-partitioned, etc. Out of warranty so SOL.

2) Sandisk Ultra II 480GB - Suddenly decided to quit one day, no warnings whatsoever. Tested on a couple of computers before sending it in for warranty. Warranty replacement was brand new. No problems so far after 3 years.
