does this work for new customers or just existing customers?
do you have to do it in store? No metropcs stores within 90 miles for me.

Did they just raise the price? This has been $29.99 for a while. My colleague got one. I'm waiting for cricket to lower the price so I can switch over to cricket.

Do you anticipate Cricket offering less than $100 for 4 unlimited lines?

No. I was waiting for cricket to match the $29.99 price at metropcs.

I'm already with MetroPCS so I dont qualify for the 29.99 price (which was just raised to $89.99). So now there is little chance of Cricket going lower.

The Stylo 4 is a great looking phone with elongated screen aspect ratio and slightly dull colors otherwise it's probably the best phone in the $180 eBay price range.

Here is the comparison between the two best MVNOs:

Cricket is 22GB unlimited
Metro is 35GB unlimited

Cricket speed capped at 3mbps
Metro speed doesnt seem capped

Cricket is better outside of urban areas
Metro seems to be good only in dense urban areas

Cricket phone swap is as easy as switching SIM cards like all normal GSM service.
Metro still has the garbage old time Sprint habit of IMEI registering. So to switch phones it's a 1 hour phone hassle or $5 in store fee.

Metro will unlock phone after 3 months.
Cricket takes 12 months to unlock.

Metro has free data for paid music services such as spotify, Pandora, Apple Music.
Cricket charges data on those. Even directv that is data free on att is still charged data on the sister company cricket.

Cricket typically did 50% off flagship on black Friday 2014 Galaxy S5 and 2015 Galaxy S6 with tons of Samsung promos. Except in 2016 and 2017 they did not so im staying with metro for now.

California charges sales tax on full price of phones if they are sold for at least 1 cent. That's why may phones are .99 or free after rebate, to keep the tax collectors happy in California. Somehow Metro has made the $29.99 (old price on Stylo 4 which is now $89.99) the MSRP so in California you only pay tax on $29.99 not the $249 MSRP.

Metro activation in store was only $12 with free SIM that came with the phone. Cricket I think still runs $25.

Try to always avoid franchise stores and go to corporate stores if possible or order online. Franchise stores basically charge you whatever they want if you are not paying attention mostly with Metro. I just got an Alcatel hotspot that's free when you add a line and $35 first month and that ended up $86.43 out the door. When I asked for itemized receipt they said they cant. Crooked franchises. Then I get a text from Metro saying thank you for your payment of $48 which is $35 first months and $12 activation.

Anyway I have had both for over a year. They are both great.

Nice write up. Most of it seems spot-on except:

Cricket did have the S8 for "half off" for $350 plus tax for Port in.

Doesn't Metro's unlock policy need 6 months rather than 3?

also, doesn't the cricket Stylo 4 have 3 GB of RAM vs 2 for the metro model?

Metro still has the garbage old time Sprint habit of IMEI registering. So to switch phones it's a 1 hour phone hassle or $5 in store fee. "1 hour hassle"? I've called in to swap SIMs easily 30 times and never spent more than 7-8 minutes on a call.

Metro will unlock phone after 3 months. 6 months as of 4/1/2018.

Yes to the ram and no for 6 month policy. From what I saw on the box at cricket, it doesn't have NFC or fast charging, which I need on my phone's. Also they want $229. To me the MetroPCS one is better for that reason alone

Actually I stand corrected on the 3 month policy. it's 6months now as another SD user confirmed.
