The Essential Phone isn't perfect. It lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack (Essential provides a USB-C to 3.5mm converter in the box) and wireless charging; it isn't waterproof; and software instability issues dog even the latest firmware. But considering the reduced price tag ($499 from $699 at launch), continued software support, and broad carrier compatibility (it works with all major carriers in the U.S., including Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint), the Essential Phone is a better value than it's ever been.

YMMV: Amex 20% is taken off of the original price of $465.48 leading to a discount of $93.10. This brings the final down to $156.89.

Another YMMV:
Just FYI for those who are already not aware:
The Amex 20% off offer works for a total two times with a discount limit of $100 each time.

Stay away if you have Tmobile, There are lots of reception issues with this phone. Otherwise a decent phone, cant be beat for that price. The company will be going out of business from what I have read.

I heard this phone is still having Bluetooth, rebooting, and signal issues with 8.1? Anyone have this experience?

I got this phone from the Sprint lease deal over the holidays last year, and this phone was super solid. I was using it with T-Mobile up until last month with zero issues. They've have really improved this phone with their updates. 8.1 was running super fast and responsive, I don't discount people issues with this phone, but I didn't experience any of it. This is a steal of a price IMO.

The only issue I had was with Android Auto, apparently it's pretty picky with which cables you use.

So tempting at this price, but too many issues to consider it.

Thanks! Good to know. Is it a hardware issue or firmware related?

Just picked up a Mate 10 Pro via BHPhoto. I had this phone for a couple of weeks AMA.

What I liked,
It had fast updates/beta software.
Ceramic build very nice
Notch better than iPhone X notch

Didn't like:
Display seemed washed out for an LCD
Camera was MEH WTF
Bluetooth issues
Network issues with TMobile
No headphone jack Frown
Decent battery life

Its a combination of poor hardware and software. The hardware itself is known to not have the best antenna in it, but I hear the tmobile issue is related to that poor hardware with software issues transitioning between 4g lte, 4g HSPA+ and 3g. Users reported that disabling 4g lte helps but you are handicapping yourself doing this.

Dang, I was seriously considering the Essential as a Tmo customer because I'm kind of tired of using an iPhone. Any XDA threads on this that I should be following?
