I don't think that the M40x needs any description since the M50x and the M40x are pretty popular. From what I saw when I searched for them on SD, the cheapest they have ever been was around 60 some dollars by adorama. I believe M40s have the same driver as the M50s, but I could be wrong. Either way, here is some info about them:
  • Cutting-edge engineering and robust construction
  • 40 mm drivers with rare earth magnets and copper-clad aluminum wire voice coils
  • Circumaural design contours around the ears for excellent sound isolation in loud environments
  • 90° swiveling earcups for easy, one-ear monitoring.NOTE: Kindly refer user manual before usage of the product.
  • Professional-grade earpad and headband material delivers more durability and comfort. Removable cable

As you said, not the best price but pretty decent if you need them.
They do not have same driver as M50x. M50x has 5mm larger driver.. Based on reviews, some people prefer the 40x as they sound more neutral compared to more bass and treble emphasis in 50x but others think 50x are better. Guess its personal preference and I am myself conflicted on which ones to pick for my kids to use with electronic drum kit.

No. They have a detachable cable, but are wired connection only.

The m50x barely has bass, if the m40x are worse then I'm passing. The highs did annoy me at first with the m50x, to a point that the disappointment angered me. After some time the sound changed up and now I don't mind them.I do want to try the m40x or vmoda m-100s tho.

Great all-around set of headphones. I leave them at my desk at work and use them all the time. Great when I need to listen to music, watch YouTube videos, or do anything productive at my desk. Was lucky and snatched them for $64.99 (no tax) on Adorama a few years ago.

This deal is dead. But I just received these. Have both M50 (before the M50x) and M40x. Got the M40s to see what all the snobby audiophiles were on about. Differences aren't worth the extra money imo. M40s seem to hit more evenly, while the M50s have this sort of articifical layering to make it seem atmospheric and noticeable treble that's kind of tinny sounding. This is all relative to the M40x though. I'm sure these will sound even better when they break in.

Both are fantastic but after hearing the 40s, I don't think the M50s are worth the extra dough. Can't go wrong with either though

Amazing, these are quite flat- Cymbals are just right, sounds just like my big Polk Audio monitors and RTi's in a headphone.
