You don't have to. Buy new. When it arrives return on old purchase. Amazon doesn't track serial numbers. Can basically return as "new". Don't need to lie and say doesn't work or anything.

I bought this exactly a month ago for $160 off of Amazon. I only bought it because Xfinity suggested I replace my DOCSIS 3.0, 8 download channel modem with one that supports DOCSIS 3.1 and has 32 download channels. They also said it'd stabilize my connectivity (my plan maxes at 250mpbs). I could see thru their BS, but I was fed up with the awful connectivity issues I was having, so I just bit the bullet and bought this. It hurts me to know I spent $160 on this -- something I THINK I didn't even need.

But yes, blogpost aside, a good deal for gigabit users.

I have Comcast 250 as well. I'm getting marginally faster than what I was before. Getting around 300 with this modem. Was at 215 for the longest time until I realized I had a cat5e cable instead of a cat6. After swapping the cable, I got around 270. Upgrading from an 8 to this 32 modem put me at 295-300.

Try swapping the Ethernet cable?

Who pays for return shipping in this situation? Is amazon willing to pay it, or do they charge the buyer?

They offered me a shipping label, so they do. But still not worth the hassle imo of dealing with iSP to add the modem

Anything is better than paying to rent a router from an ISP. Renting a router is one of the biggest rip offs I know of.

Bought 1 to replace DOCSIS 3.0 Motorola SB6121 pretty much just to future proof myself.
You should return here in the future and let us know how that turned out.

Somehow this was $10 more earlier today and I bought it and since I already used the $10 coupon it won't let me use it again.

Was about to go get this at Frys today. Xfinity recently rolled out the gigabit cable connection in Sugar Land, TX. Clutch deal! In for one, thanks!
