Hey folks,

buydig via eBay is offering HIFIMAN HE-400i SE Over-Ear Headphones [ebay.com] for $149.99. This deal went frontpage two months ago. Now coupon code PRIMO119 brings the price down to an all-time low of $124.99.

I bought these headphones for about $225 a couple of years ago and still think they're fantastic for the price - at $100 less, they're a steal!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Too many Amazon reviews state poor build quality. not worth the price IMO.

I have a pair that I got on a similar deal to this, and build quality is excellent! You need an moderately powerful amp (can be an inexpensive portable) to drive these phones. Totally worth $125 IMHO. Cheers, Joe

I bought them at 150, if you're gentle with them you shouldn't have any problems with the durability. Mine have fallen twice from three feet up onto a fatigue mat and there are no cracks.

I love the sound of these, but the build quality is really bad, mainly with the plastic parts of the headband. My pair has had one the left side break off of the headband.

that said, im going to be buying a second set with this deal.... so.... yeah

The headband is different on the 4xx, tighter perhaps?

Too many OLD Amazon reviews have statements still about build quality.

Hifiman apparently had one of their 3rd party vendors supplying the yokes for these headphones doing it wrong. As such those yokes broke easily and often if the consumer got a pair with yokes provided by that specific vendor. They used several vendors for all the parts. That was since rectified a LONG time ago, and people don't get those bad yoke versions anymore. Not even buydig at this point has stock old enough to potentially have those bad yokes.

They supposedly addressed some of the qeak design points of the 400i. It also looks better for portable. Even tho it is open back.

Same drivers, same cups (different finish), and same sound. Only difference between the 4xx and 400i is the headband and yokes. The headband is much nicer on the 4xx by far. I like them both though. Can't go wrong with either at their current prices. This for $125 of the 4xx for $170.

It's a good value for what it is, but build quality issues on this are well known and well documented. (Even Zeos/Z-reviews) discussed it. I think it was that a lot of people had the headband snap.

These are issues that were apparently addressed in the MassDrop version (that regularly goes up for sale at $169). At this price, it's probably a worthwhile purchase, but just because you have not had experienced breakage doesn't mean there have not been issues. A simple web search will reveal.
