The best non-Kohls coupon deal I've seen on the AeroPress in a while.

Total cost $22.49 after clipping the $6.46 coupon: https://www.amazon.com/AeroPress-...vpc_slickd

Also, the best re-usable filter out there is on sale too: https://www.amazon.com/MESH-AeroP...B00JVTQHVC

Enjoy your coffee!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Cold brew peeps: The same guys who make the re-usable AeroPress filters also make cold brew tubes to use with mason jars: https://www.amazon.com/TUBE-Infus...B0744ZJCHY [amazon.com]

Get the + size, a 64oz mason jar, and make tons of cold brew.
Again, there ia a huge difference between making cold brew using the drip method and the submerged method. I have a jug to make the submerged type and compared to the drip I make with the Aeropress, it's not nearly as good.

Most of the cold brew drip makers are quite pricey [amazon.com].

The submerged maker I bought (cause it's easy to use and clean) was <$20 and can be found here [amazon.com].

If you have an aeropress and want to try some really good cold brew concentrate from drip, check out https://www.javapresse.com/blogs/...rew-coffee

I feel you. It's just that the mason jar and tube is so dang easy. Plus I can rotate in a batch of fruit infused vodka!

Good god, a Jules Verne meets Heath Robinson coffee maker. Colour me interested and smoke me a kipper for breakfast. You could use that for morning coffee and absinthe in the evening!

Hmm. I've been thinking about a Nespresso, but can't figure out which one. Maybe this plus the reusable filter plus a hand grinder will be the improvement I need for my coffee.

Yeah this is a drip cold brew vs the submerged type. Very different result. I drink coffee everyday and 1 batch of this will last me a couple days. If you drink a gallon of concentrated coffee a week then this is probably not the method for you.
Oh, I know. The drip method yields weaker, unconcentrated coffee. For the amount of time and small volume, it's not my thing. Tastes fine, though.

Also, I don't drink a gallon of cold brew in a week. I just use a gallon jar because it fits the water and grounds. Yields 64oz of concentrate, which gets at least doubled. And there's two of us. Gives us about a week of coffee. Clearly AeroPress cold brew would be tedious. You're right, it's not for me.

To be clear, though, I'm not crapping on AeroPress cold brew. It really does taste fine. Just not better than submerged, IMO.

Is a nice comparison write-up between the 2 different styles here [javapresse.com] .

I'm certainly not knocking how you do things. I started with the immersion method myself and thought it was great. Once I tried the drop method I put my immersion making gear up on the shelf and have yet to pull it back down. There is NO WAY in hell I would spend a few hundred $$ on those fancy drip brewers but using my Aeropress for cold brew just required me to pick up the screened funnel used to hold the ice (bought mine at Ikea for like $10).

Not until you mentioned it. Looks like it does. I only have a cup of coffee a day (12oz) typically with rare occasion of 2 cups. I probably only drink 4 cups a week on average.

I get my LDL tested every year and it's low. I have been using the metal filter for about 2 years now. I'm fairly healthy, so I don't think it's a concern of mine yet.

<snip>

In 2001, Klag and his colleagues reviewed more than a dozen studies that looked at the relationship between coffee consumption and cholesterol levels. They found that drinking an average of six cups of coffee a day was associated with increased total cholesterol and LDL, the harmful type of cholesterol. Nearly all of the rise in cholesterol was linked to unfiltered coffee.

<snip>

A Dutch researcher who has also documented the cholesterol-boosting effect of unfiltered coffee agrees that the risks need to be seen in perspective.

"Unfiltered coffee has much less effect on your heart disease risk than smoking, high blood pressure or being overweight," says Dr. Martijn B. Katan, a professor at the Wageningen Center for Food Sciences and Wageningen University. "But if you want to optimize your cholesterol levels, you should avoid large daily amounts of unfiltered coffee."
