The main flaw of this modem is the heating issues and the 3GB ram specification is mostly an advertisement gimmick. People usually choose between this SB8200 and MB8600,

Arris modems have been mostly reliable for me and problem free but this model is a toss up. Oh and for anyone that does get this and is having troubles getting it to work properly with your ISP the reason is usually that it got provisioned incorrectly and using another modem's profile although not all ISP have specific profiles for all these new modems and just use a general one.

Is that similar to the problem SB6190 users have experienced?

For the 6190 some are considering instead, do not buy. Flawed Intel PUMA chipset. Choose SB6183 instead.

I'm not sure what specific problems but I believe most of the SB6190 problems stem from the PUMA 6 latency issues a chip which this modem does not have. Most of these profile/software/firmware issues are currently present bc these modems are newer and not all ISP's have specific profiles. For example I wouldn't be surprised if the profile used on this SB8200 is the one for the SB6190 or SB6183.

I am fighting 6190 issues on my isp now. constant disconnects on two different modems and I am looking for a solid replacement.

Arris wants me to send mine in for a replacement, but it sounds like this PUMA chip is a known issue as well as firmware.
