2600X is the 2nd generation of the Ryzen 5 line and, just a quick glancing, looks to be faster.

Better is always subjective Smilie

1700x has more cores (more parallel execution), might be a fraction bit better at multi-tasking/productivity stuff.
2600x has higher clock speed (faster execution), expect better performance on gaming and on software that doesn't make use of all cores.

Overall, I believe you'll have a very similar experience with whichever one you go with.

The 1700x is 8cores it will be faster in things that actually take long for processors. The 2600x is 6 cores with a slightly higher speed. You will get like 4 frames per second more in games. It's not noticeable enough. The 1700x is a better buy.

I bought this for this price a few weeks ago. It seems like it has been on sale for $165 every other day since then. I would give it a few days and see if there's another sale.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AMD-...3199629348

The price of $189.99 seems to be the normal price for the 2600x from this seller (refurbforless). It is advertised as a new product despite the name of the seller. There is a lengthy discussion of whether this is a reputable seller. He/she has a lot of reviews and his reputation seems ok, but I will find out for myself soon enough.

You can do a search in slickdeals for ryzen, and a good chunk of the deals are from this ebay seller. It seems like there are "deals" on every ryzen processor that this seller sells whenever there is any site wide ebay discount, turning low prices into really low prices.

I believe the ebay deal I used is expired, but you could probably just wait for the next one.

Another bad smell for me is he lists it as retailing at $399.99

Yes, his reviews specifically for ryzen products seem overwhelmingly positive. I hope it works out for you and those who purchased from there. Thanks for replying with the link, I'll keep an eye out.
