Though these are perfectly good computers, and something that you could literally go out and bring home today, they are not particularly great values.

The Inspiron 3670 has only two memory sockets which means limited expansion including probably having to remove an existing module before being able to add a larger one (as opposed to just adding memory in a machine that had additional slots). The machine expansion is also limited with just one PCI x16 slot and two PCI-ExpressX1 slots and it has a relatively low wattage power supply (which though perfectly adequate for the computer as-is it would require being upgraded if one wanted to add a high end video card). Also, don't be too enamored by the 16gb Optane memory, it is not RAM, it is essentially cache to help speed up the hard disk. Both these machine have 8gb ram for your programs and operating systems to use.

Still $489 for an i5-8400 or $609 for an i7-8700 they are perfectly reasonable.
However, you can get virtually the same i5 machine (less the optane memory) direct from Dell for $479 and if you sign up for Dell Rewards program (free) you get free two day shipping and get 3% back in Dell credit to be spend on something else within 90 days (like a Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse or cheap speakers if needed).
https://deals.dell.com/productdetail/17g0
And that is not even special pricing... just typical selling price.
Occasionally they have better deals like they had last week, but the exceptional deals are off cycle right now.

Again, if you needed something in your home today, this is not a terrible deal, just not an exceptional bargain.
If you can wait a few days but wanted something today I would suggest the XPS 8930 with i5-8400, 16gb ram (and 4 slots not just 2), 1TB drive, AMD Radeon™ RX 560 with 2GB GDDR5, and a larger power supply for $699.
https://deals.dell.com/productdetail/17fw
Not an incredible value but a much better value than either the staples or dell inspiron 3670 because for $200 more your are getting about $150 worth of additional memory and about $150 worth of additional video card but a overall more expandable machine.

Good luck.

EDIT: You can also get 10% back of the sale price at Dell when you click thru from that popular electronic rEBATES site... making the 479 deal less 10% ($47.90) rebate less 3% ($14.37) dell rewards rebate a pretty good deal. That 10% rebate from the referral site is usually just 2% so this is a good sale for a basic computer.

I think your prices are a bit low unless they are off brands.
Dell parts are brand name like Seagate/WesternDigital/Micron/Etc
also suspect shipping has been left out of your numbers as well as several other items such as...
operating system $80
wifi/Bluetooth card $30
heatsink/fan $25
thermal paste
time shopping
time building
time troubleshooting
finger pointing by every part vendor should you run into a problem and call for a replacement part...

the days of build vs buy are dead. the only possibly way to save when building your own is when you intend to pirate the operating system and if you have prior build knowledge and experience, or if you have some personal desire to just do it for kicks.
for an occasional builder attempting to build an economy box it is a false economy.
for someone looking to build a specialty rig for gamming or mining bitcoins it is another matter.

Oops, I didn't count the OS cost.
Boxed non-K cpu comes with stock cooler and thermal past.
itx MB usually comes with wifi/BT card
Most of the items are free shipping and non of them is off brand (Seagate, Asrock, Gigabyte, Msi, Asus, HP, Rosewill, Intel, Samsung, Team Group, Micron, Crucial, Gskill, Corsair, Adata, WD, EVGA).
Do some simple research on price only cost like 10 minutes and build a PC cost at most round 2 hours (I only need at most half an hour now).
Another fact is OEMs prefer poor quality parts to lower their cost, despite the quality, they're usable (Do you think OEMs will really give you the good quality parts that you could find in the retail market? look at those gpus in the OEM PCs, ram sticks without heatsink or RGB, some good models will use PM961/PM981/CX2/XG3 but most of them use garbage ssds, poor motherboards and BIOS (lga 1151 OEM MB list on eBay around $30 regardless pre-owned or new other or new, then you know the price of their MBs)).
BTW, check frequently on Newegg and eBay, you will figure out that the price I list are almost regular price (not a flash deal price) and tax free for most states. Amazon usually overprice too much on same items (for example, i7 8700k on Amazon is 347 + tax while it's 320 on eBay--sold by Monoprice, if you don't mind you could also buy a used or brand new at 300~320 from a third party seller) and you usually need to pay tax (but you get a better service). Compared with Amazon, my prices are a bit low lol.

Finally, if you get paid more than $90/hour. Okay ignore all above, you win.

Your point is taken that you can save a *little* money building your own, but it does require some research, some shopping, some willingness to do it, and your time to built it which is not free. Yes with experience like you have it becomes almost second nature to do but to suggest to novices to do what we can do without any caution as to what is required is careless. You seem to forget the amount of effort and the amount of knowledge it takes to not just do it but do it confidently and successfully.
Yes I do think some oem like Acer use inferior parts like low quality motherboards, but there is no doubt in my mind that top tier companies like Lenovo and Dell use first rate high quality parts that are every bit equal to what you buy from Newegg except that they pay much less for the parts as they are buying in quantity and you are buying a single unit in a retail box from Newegg. And their systems have been combed through for any compatibility issues and are built in such quantity that if sonthing it missed you can be sure others will talk about it and there will be a solution that you can apply rather than having to figure it out on your own.
And remember, you are comparing your rock bottom sale prices on multiple parts collected over time vs a run of the mill daily price on a complete system that you can take out of the box and turn on. Compare the self built to a great sale price and you have nothing but the pride of putting it together yourself to show for your effort.
It just is no longer economical to build vs buy a low end pc unless you intend to pirate the software and even if you are it just is not that great a savings.
Building high end rigs is another matter.
So it appears we disagree.
Wishing you luck with your builds none the less.

This is the 1st time i got pm demands for something in return for their time to write me lengthy reply. All i could do is vote helpful for ur comment and I am trying to figure out how to rep since you are the first one. There you go. I appreciate your time and effort! But still i dont appreciate you forcing me to do instead of I voluntary show my appreciation to you. Thanks for teaching me a lesson that next time when i give out free movie tickets, coupon or make any contributions i should ask something back as well!

I did not demand a reply or force you to do anything, I simply sent you a private message beuacse I gave you a very detailed answer to your question and you like so many others in this selfish "community" did not acknowledge it in any way. That reminded me that I should not to waste my time helping others in this forum,. You could have ignored my comment, you could have replied privately, you choose to post here. It first appears that my comment struck a cord in you and made you aware of your own bad behavior so you posted, but then your post turns nasty and reveals your true character which I apparently identified correctly in my private message.

No, my reply wasnt nasty at all. I just fell that nowadays whenever people did something, there always an intention behind it and i am not comfortable the way you pm me for it. Look at your own response, it is paradox. If you dont demand something(reps??) why you need other to acknowledge your lengthy reply. This is what you wrote "subject: no reply?"
Message "sorry I wasted my time writing that lengthy reply to you.
when will I learn not to try to help other here.
the most selfish, greedy group I know... and most also happy to also become criminals to save a dollar."

You could have, just let it go instead of sending me pm. Obviously i am not your first encounter,
if not you wont completely explode and send me this pm and put your anger, blame and dissatisfaction on me. I was being nice and apologized to you that i simply didnt open my SD apps since they are so many alert popups and i never expect that someone would send me this kind of message. I'm sorry that i may have misread your message! But still i still do not appreciate it!!!

Your appology was not requested and it is not accepted as it was obviously not genuine.
Clearly you completely missed my point and are unaware of your strange manner of artificially thanking someone while simultaneous insulting them. Makes me feel sorry for those close to you.

Thanks, but i dont need you to accept it since is it not necessary. You probably get used of helping ppl and receiving responses from them promptly. Then suddenly someone like me acted beyond your expectation, you started whining like a baby asking for comforts and complaining that helping is wrong since selfish people never appreciated it. You fell that i insulted you but you never realized your action insulted me as well and you are the one who started first. So stop complaining as no one ask you for help or force you to do so. If you mean to help other you shouldn't ask something in return. If everyone behave just like you asking return whenever they did something, and complain when they didnt receive it then people around you arent your sincere true friends. After writing this response, i introspect, i no longer feel angry or offended by your actions. I actually appreciated it, because i will continue helping others like i usually did. Whether appreciated or unappreciated by others is none of my business as long i follow my conscience and feel truly happy with what i am doing, if not life would be pathetic. This is my last response to your comment. Please feel free to comment but i wont reply anymore. I rather spend my time wisely.

And again you further embarras yourself and show how worthless and insincere your apology was. There is no need for you to reply as you have already dug yourself so deep there is no way you cam climb out of your hole.

Lol, you say nobody asked for help.. well that would be true if you were referring to people other that yourself....
