Price is ok, not great, but I'm somewhat tempted since this card is a good inch shorter than most other dual-fan RX580 I've seen, hence would fit more comfortably in my crammed case...

It's not old tech until some newer tech has gotten released which it hasn't ......yet. right now it's the only tech there is.

I might bite on this. I really want an eGPU for my 2017 15" MBP and this would be a modest boost in performance over my 2 GB Radeon Pro 555

New cards around the corner and black friday not far away. That's a hard nope.
Sorry, four months is far away in this market space. Cryptocurrency is always a wild card that could move a lot between now and then throwing prices all out of whack again. Or crypto prices may not move at all, and GPU prices could continue to slowly go down like it is now. No one really knows.

Also, a new card from AMD is like a new car from Tesla. It's new tech so expectations in performance are high, with good availability and good pricing promised at launch. But in the end, they all too often come up way short on all counts.

Tesla Motors has come up short? They barely have any real competition.
