I bought this a couple years ago for a little over 500 after trying yamaha. This felt closer to a real piano than yamaha. Best action among 20 I tested. Speakers sound surprisingly good too. It has two steinway and one yamaha concert grand piano sounds to choose from. I can soften and harden action depends on which music I play. Something I can't do on real piano without spending hundreds.

These deals seem to be promotions ran with Slick Deals. I would like it better if they just stated that up front. For example, the firewire mixer that was on sale, I could only see the price listed via the SD link. (For I had searched for the product by product number from another computer and it was much more $$$)

Point being, some of these are exclusives.

This deal does look interesting, but I just got my Roland JUNO DS88 in yesterday, and I am loving it.

Agree. It seems they had ran korg b1 promotions a while back for 300$. I would wait for that deal. Since I have korg pa700, I want to stay with Korg b1 for my son.

If I had not made the JUNO ** purchase I just mentioned, I would have thought about picking this up as a controller. I have a collection of Romplers such as the JV1080 and JV1010 etc to use. (I know it does not have full controls, but I have a 49 key workstation keyboard with screen already, but with spring action) I could have got this FP-30 as a full-sized weighted board, and had a piano to talk around to family things. I hope you are liking yours.

I'm not sure. I've always though built-in speakers was a weak point in all of them. I did not check, but I am surprised that someone has not partnered with Bose or some other 'big sound in a little box' speaker maker with these.

As for me, I have a mini-studio (ok, just a dedicated desk and rack), so built-in sound not important. I was going with a controller with a deck I liked, but because I found out the JUNO DS88 sound engine was great, has a great feeling deck, so I went with it. So, I could have bought a cheaper controller, on the other hand, I could not justify moving up the FA-08 for 'Integra-7' module built in. I settled in the middle of the road, the JUNO DS88. (A jump of $500 over this FP-30 piano to add this JUNO's sound engine]

The Juno DS88 has many sound banks from the XV-5080 for download (896 patches, banks A-G), and one virtual expansion slot with free download 'cards' that are a lot like the SRX line.

That said, I could have bought something like the FP-30 for it's deck feel, and used it via MIDI to control the JV1010 and JV1080 (with 4 expansion slots full). It would have given me a 'piano' to take around, and a midi controller at home, albeit without the workstation features.

Cookie21, I've valued your input on other posts over the years, so I wanted to give you some ideas. A lot of this just really depends on your use. If you want portable piano with a good-feeling deck , this might work. You can always carry a small powered amp with you for larger sound. This is a step-up from a midi controller, because it has a nice piano sound, so it will work stand alone. But, a midi controller with into a PC/Mac with a nice VST such as SoniVox's Eighty Eight (key) Ensemble might sound better, feel just as good on the deck, and come in a little less in cost. (if you already have the PC) .

I have another low end yamaha keyboard (I paid like $100 some years ago) and the volume level is about the same, that's why I though this would be louder... However the sound quality is a big improvement.
