MicroUSB cable charges some devices but not others?

891 221 July 23, 2018 at 04:47 PM
I have a few MicroUSB cables that charge my Bose headphones, Anker speaker, Chotech Wireless Charging Pad, and four different USB battery packs without any problems.

I have a few other MicroUSB cables that DO NOT charge the Speaker or provide power to the Wireless Charging Pad.. but they charger everything else!

All are tested with the same factory-sealed Apple wall adapter that came with my iPhone 8.

Why do some MicroUSB cables not charge specific devices? Is there a version or product identifier I need to know when I buy new MicroUSB cables in the future so that I can charge ALL devices?

Thanks for the help, this is driving me crazy and I don't want to buy any more until I figure it out!

Apart from a loose connection, I would say it's the data pins. Sometimes they are used to deliver additional power from my understanding. If your buying a high quality cable from the likes of Monoprice, Anker etc, they should do everything.

Are you sure they all support data? meaning, some cables I get indicate "charge only" on them which to me indicates they lack the data cables (saves $$).

That said, some devices determine charging status (e.g. PC or AC) depending on if the data pins are shunted. That would be very device specific, which seems to be the case here.

Fortunately cables are cheap enough that it's simpler just to buy a few more. As for me, our issue is the microUSB connectors just seem to fail over time and are extremely sensitive to side loading. I use a couple fire tablets for the kiddos and regardless of how hard I try, the USB connections (for power) just go to shit over time.

Stop buying crappy cables and consider a non-apple charger for non-apple items if may charge faster and complain less.
