I currently own this projector. Some good information and some misinformation in this thread. Here are some quick important details.

This has an RGBW color wheel. This allows for brighter whites at the cost of slightly duller colors. However, the eye can see this as increased perceived contrast. This is really geared towards a Living Room TV Replacement or for an office setup. The PX727 which is RGBRGB is significantly dimmer. If you have any ambient light then forget the 727 you will want to step up to the 747. With ambient light any extra color lumens you may get from the 727 will be completely washed out.

This has the ti .47 dlp chip. This shifts a 1080p image 4 times in order to give the full 4k image on screen. If you do not have another true 4k projector sitting next to it (Sony has the cheapest full 4k projector and its $5000) then you will not be able to tell the difference. It would be really hard to notice any difference between true/faux 4k projectors unless you are sitting 2 feet away.

This is a projector that is best paired with a proper contrast gaining screen. Something like a grey ALR works wonders with this. It helps largely with the poor contrast all these (entry level) 4k dlp projectors have. The ALR aspect helps with the battle against ambient light.

The debate of this vs a higher contrast 1080p like the Epson 3700 is something I was considering too. The color brightness on the Epson is amazing and the contrast is a large step up from the PX747 or PX727. However, I promise you that once you see 4k it is near impossible to unsee it. I have a 120" DES Pulsar screen and 4k at that size is just incredible. The sharpness and clarity of the image really makes it come alive. If you have not started the 4k transition and want to wait a couple more years for companies to produce better budget projectors I understand but, at this price point it is hard to say go for a 1080p projector at the same price as 4k ESPECIALLY in an ambient light environment. The contrast bonus and color bonuses are lost when ambient light is introduced.

UHD60 or UHD51 are in a whole different price bracket in all honesty. The UHD65 is another monster step above even those. I hear the UHD51 is great however at over $1500 you are more than $500 over this projectors current price. It also does not have the brightness this projector has. That would be a better projector to compare to the 727 or the BENQ 2550. The UHD60 has higher input lag to the point that most people who play games will find it unbearable and the UHD65's frame interpolation cant be turned off leaving 100ms of input lag. Not a single person could play a game on the UHD65 and think its enjoyable I promise.. This 747 has the lowest input lag around (40ms) of all the current budget 4k PJs.

This is for a Living Room with Ambient Light
Is the only sub $1000 4k projector currently
Uses pixel shifting to make the image appear 4k (very difficult for the eye to perceive the difference)
Has around 40ms of input lag the lowest of current budget 4k pjs.

Exactly, like a woman's real orgasm and fake, if you can't tell the difference then it doesn't matter...

man, wife and I have been debating on getting a 4k projector, we have a 1080p projector now and it's starting to act up. The price point is nice, but maybe we'll hold out until these drop in prices similar to 4k tvs.

Yeah 4K projector right now is not true 4K. But this price is tempting. Thinking of getting this or get epson 2150 for $650

Just a FYI while this will work for movies and such not, this is more geared toward office use applications. The 727 is the movie theater option from Viewsonic. I expect the 747 to drop a lot more by end of the year.

From ProjectorCentral comparing 727 and 747:
Quote :
What difference do the color wheels make?

These two color wheels present us with a trade-off between total white light output (ANSI lumens), and color brightness. In practical terms, this means that white elements in a picture will appear brighter on the PX747, while colored subject matter appears brighter on the PX727.

Besides this being somewhat 4k, how does this Viewsonic compare to Epson 3700 specially with the contrast ration and black levels vs the Epson 3700?

The Epson has almost 70000:1 contrast ratio and lumens brightness is about the same between the two.

Looking for some guidance. I need to find a projector for occasional use in my garage.
Can someone guide me to a decent one for less than 200? I have 16 feet (distance to wall) to work with.
