i7-8700 for less than $500? Seems pretty good... What's with the TD at the moment?

Because it's very limited in the upgrades you can do.

It's going to look something like this inside

It's a desktop? No upgrade paths available without replacing numerous parts. Only a good deal if you have to have that processor for some reason

Can't install a GPU, PSU can't support any upgrades...probably not very good cooling for the CPU

Might be a good deal if you want to put it in a different atx case. Save some money by getting 8700 Mobo ram and hdd

This is a good deal if you aren't a gamer. 8700 is quite a bit faster than 8400 systems, which the cheapest I've seen is $430. 15200 passmark vs 11700.

I found this and think this may be a better option to add a GPU, thoughts?

I could not find specs about PSU... how many rails, wattage, connections, etc.. Also, without being able to see the case and available room inside, and with only 2 x DIMM (for RAM) slots, I would pass on that and just buy your parts separately. You'll come out to about the same price (not including video card)... maybe a little more if you go with 16GB DDR4.

Also, it doesn't list timings of RAM. I would splurge and get the 8700k as it has higher base clock speeds, but only .1Ghz higher top speed (without O/C).

I tried the plain 8700 route but switched my mind after I had the CPU home and began piecing together. I had originally planned just to disable throttling and letting the CPU go full speed %100 of the time but with the board I had that meant the fans would likely be at full throttle and I didn't want that. (just something to think about)

Good luck!
