I wish newegg drop the price to $450 instead of $200 GC. It's a good deal for someone that needs it.

Great receiver for the price. Lots of technology and 9 channel amplification on almost any other receiver is going to cost you closer to $1000 starting. I bought mine a few weeks ago when they were running a $699 with 200GC deal. I am running 7.2.1 with it. The first one I received was DOA though and had to do an RMA.

Newegg was good about it but it delayed me having a working receiver for about 2 weeks and the hassle of doing it.

I'm thinking of getting this. Can I ask how it sounds? Does the auto calibration do a good job with measurements, channel levels, etc? I'm going to run 7.1.2 Atmos setup.

You can, for example, run 9 speakers with 2 subwoofers (9.2), or 7 speakers, 2 subs and 2 height speakers (7.2.2) or 5 speakers, 2 subs and 4 height speakers (5.2.4).

Read on a amazon review that Onkyo receivers spy on your product usage, and that you have to opt out each time you power on, if you don't then you agree! Anyone have experience with this?

It sounds good so far but honestly, I just got it hooked up Saturday and have been slammed. Mainly have just run test atmos demos and watched tv.

Wow, that is an ABSOLUTE deal breaker for me if true. Can anyone confirm? I have an Onkyo now, but that will be my last one if this is legit.

Problem after problem with my Onkyo T-656 which has 7 channels and plenty of bells and whistles. Customer support was very unhelpful. I don't like lugging my receiver into the repair shop. Can't recommend Onkyo.

This is true. I use a Harmony remote, so I had to add a step in my start up to hit disagree everytime. I really hope they come out with a firmware to remove this, otherwise this is my last Onkyo product forever.

The reciever itself is pretty badass for the price though.

Ok, thanks anyway. If you have more thoughts down the road post them if you can. I'm in no hurry and the price for this will go nowhere but down.
