Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

If you don't already have that exact card you can def apply and take advantage of the promo. You are a new cardholder to the product in their eyes.

Usually this card also comes with a $100 statement credit.

If you can wait, I'd wait for that better offer.

Correct - you pay the annual fee the first year, and my understanding is that the companion pass is not available for the first year, despite the fee.

I agree with this also. I'm probably going to sign up because I want the companion pass to kick in sooner than later. But if your'e on the fence or don't have an urgent need, it may be worth waiting a few months for the statement credit!

My wife just closed one last month; freebies paid for most of our trip to Costa Rica.

Would that affect my application?

My wife had it last year. It had a $150 statement credit, but less mileage; I think 60k.

I thought in the past the workaround was that you are allowed to have both cards (Gold and Plat), so you can apply as a new card vs. upgrade.

Anyone know if that is still the case?

Yes. You can have both. Have to apply for the platinum as a new card. Not an upgrade.

Looking to travel with my wife and 3 kids (5 people) to London early next year. I want to travel completely on delta and debating on getting the card. What do you guys think? I'd assume the tickets are going to cost ~7k and I can do 3k on a card to get the initial bonus.

What are you suggestions? I have a Capital One Venture card but when I travel for work (rarely) I generally try and book Delta so I can see this might be a benefit as well.
