This was $799.99 until yesterday... now $699.99.
If anyone bought at higher price in last 30days, hurry up and submit price match on Costco.com

Few (6) but good reviews - 4.8/5

I'm confused with the processor numbers. I have older i5s that have more gz than this, but this is an 8th gen i7.

What am I missing? Is this more efficient thus needs less power?

Seems to be some confusion whether it has IPS or TN panel.

The Amazon version does
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspir...B075FLJ87G
but this has both SSD and HD and more ram, cheaper and easy return policy!

It's definitely a TN panel. I am the one that called Acer and wrote the posts asking the question about the screen.Costco has a high end Acer gaming notebook in store for $1299 that also has a TN screen. From what I can find out online they put IPS panels in the ones they sell in Europe. I had been waiting for the $100 off but not quite sure after finding out about the screen

The Amazon one I referenced has an IPS panel. Amazon also sells a similar older Acer model with a TN panel. The IPS model also has the DVD drive in it.

Do y'all think this would work well for a college student (business major)? I've been looking for quite some time and have basically been paralyzed by indecision.

The specs and price certainly seem attractive, but I've not looked at laptops in a while, so don't have a lot to compare to.

It took 3 calls to Acer to find out the info on the screen. The first guy didn't even know what TN or IPS meant . A call to Costco also confirmed the TN panel. What a waste of an otherwise nicely loaded computer. Still considering it though.

Despite it being slower GHz, the 8th gen processors are really good to the point where these 8th gen i5s beat 7th gen i7s. And yes, supposedly the 8th gen ultra low voltage cpus has better power ratings and what not.

Here is a comparison of this i7 compared the previous gen i5.

Also, here is a comparison of a typical i5 8th gen vs a 7th gen i7.

Edit: Was trying to reply to RyanM6220 but I don't know how to quote.

Probably more than enough for your needs, but a TN panel is not as sharp as IPS when viewed at an angle. Perhaps if you are carrying the laptop around all day then size and weight (and possibly battery life) might be a major consideration. It is always good to get hands on experience before buying. At least with Costco they have an excellent return policy.

Bit the bullet and ordered because of Costco's return policy if the screen bothers me, and for the 4 year warranty when bought with the Costco Citicard. Will post again after it arrives.

Please do. Notebook reviews didn't give the Chi Mei CMN15D5 panel a good score

if that is what it comes with
This application will tell you the mfg
https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php
Nirsoft Monitorview will as well but windows prevented me from using it due to virus detected and I can't get around it.
