Shelfs are adjustable every 2" or so on these

I have used these shelf units and they are OK but nowhere near capable of handling the 350 lbs per shelf rating without the shelves bending and distorting to varying degrees.

I have placed semi-heavy items like boxes of books, air compressor, buckets of stainless nuts and bolts, heavy tool boxes, etc. on the units, and it bends the wires in the shelf due to the weight of the item. I guess you could always use pieces of plywood cut to size to help distribute the weight, but that's a lot of added cost and time.

If your goal is to store paper towel, holiday decorations, or lighter things like that then you will be fine. But if you put these in the garage and go heavy, you will end up with bent shelves like mine.

As for assembly, they are a PITA at first until you figure out the routine, then it's not so bad. Like most things, after you do it once or twice, then it's no big deal. A rubber mallet comes in handy, so pick one up if you are assembling a lot of these.

I got similar one like this before. It was HDX brand too. PITA to install. The plastic tubes keep sliding down. I hope this one is a better design.

Does anyone own these and can you comment on the ability to fit storage bins in the shelves? I'm estimating the shelf spacing to be about 15". Do you find that to be enough? Thanks in advance.

I saw a muscle rack that holds 4k pounds.....
Swear on my mother I just made an offer on OfferUp for a used muscle rack about this size for $20. Think I'll try a solid shelf this time. Didn't like the two similar shelves I bought previously. I need some shelves to hold heavy objects with feet, and these won't hold say, a desktop tower, very well. Just my experience.

Okay another question. Is it possible to combine parts from another unit and make it a five shelved unit? Buy five units, use one as a donor, and turn the other four into five shelves instead of four. The cost per square foot of this deal is good but it would be cool to be able to build them up higher. All I'm familiar with are the $20 plastic ones, and you can do this to those. Thanks!

wow that is a great deal. i've been buying a ton of similar wire rack shelving from costco--which has a lot of chrome wire shelving on sale this past month. i guess it's the month for shelf sales. i did see a teacher in line behind me buying it for her classroom. sadly, she had to use her own money to buy it.

i would like to say that is a smart application to think outside the box. i know with the various costco shelves i've purchased, they are interchangeable--not only between alera and trinity, but with all my old wire rack shelving around the house. seems like the rod diameter is pretty standard (1") and you just have to have the same shelf size lying around. i've even made a laundry hamper and bedside table with some leftover rods and shelves.
