People who prefer to play music with minimal processing often like the Marantz, which has a great Direct mode. But if you're going to use the built-in room correction software, you're better off with the Denon X3400H. The Marantz has Audyssey XT, while the Denon has Audyssey XT32, which in my mind (and those of several reviewers) is clearly superior. The XT32 does a better job of leveling out the frequency response of your speakers, including much of the impact from your room.

I know what I'm talking about because I recently upgraded from the SR5011 (last year's version of the SR5012) to the X3400H.

Both can use the $20 app that allows you to tailor your Audyssey results, which I've really liked, because it allows me to turn off midrange compensation, and then bring up the subwoofer low end so that it doesn't roll off above 20 Hz. I also like to use the app to raise the high end, starting around 1 kHz, so that I can compensate for my age-related hearing loss. PM me if you're curious to learn more. But I found the XT version in the SR5011 did weird things to the sound, which I could never find a way to correct with the app. Meanwhile, the XT32 version gets me great results, and then I can tweak them to be even better.

Marantz does offer XT32, too, but you have to upgrade to the significantly more expensive SR6012.

Hope that helps!

This one would be just fine for that. Probably a bit overkill, but it is all up to your budget.

What is the setup for the pioneers? 5.1? 7.1?

Did you get any speakers for Atmos? Or are you sticking with a X.1 style setup?

Yes, it was, and yes, they are fully authorized, three-year warranty, etc. I contacted them personally: you can see my previous post here. Very happy (tho' would have preferred the $100 over the $50, but I'm going to do a Chase PM to the Fry's deal last week).
