Probably because Home Depot often pairs a slightly smaller version of this mechanics set with the Dewalt impact and drill with 2 batteries for $200. Sell the power tools and get the mechanics set for around $40-$50.

Great set, I've had it for about 2 years. Highly recommend but wait for the Home Depot deal if you want it.

Which "slightly" smaller version set are you talking about?
does it even has the same ratchet design?
same amount of deep and regular sockets?
I've been using my friend's tools for a year while I shopped for a set that I can keep for life before I pulled the trigger.
I didn't see anything that you mentioned.
Have any old link?
Please also provide the link for the slightly smaller set.

My set is the 200 piece in that deal. It was a Home Depot deal of the day. Mechanics set plus Dewalt 20v set for $200. They run it 1-2 times per year.

Also, search SD for Dewalt mechanics and you'll see these sets can be had for under $100 pretty easily.

There is a significant difference between the 200 and 204 piece DeWalt sets. The 204 is what most people want because of the significantly higher number of wrenches and sockets that it contains. Not that the high number of bits and Allens contained in the 200 piece kit aren't needed for many repairs, but they add much less dollar value than the wrenches and sockets of the 204 piece set which can be supplemented with more bits and allens as needed at minimal cost.

This deal also does not necessitate the significant hassle of selling off the other pieces on eBay or Craigslist.

The real "slightly" less pieces tool set should be DEWALT DWMT75049 (192 piece) which has every pieces except the 12 combination wrenches. And it is selling for $ 174.95 @amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWM...c+tool+set

The set you mentioned (DWMT75111) offers significantly less deep and standard size sockets, No flex joins, less extension and many low cost filler bits.

Totally agreed.
I have searched high and low to find a set with great quality and most importantly, a set that I don't have to go and buy too many individual pieces afterward.

So many of those lower price mechanic tool sets with high-number piece advertised are missing some of the sockets, extension that I need.

Another point is that I really like the quality of this set, great craftsmanship with Chrome Vanadium (CRV.)
It is a little heavier than other brands that I have checked-out.

I checked out Husky at Home Depot and didn't like it because
some of the pieces is already banged-up in its new condition.
That got me worry. I almost bought the 349-piece Mechanic tool set.
It has no box and I didn't like the build quality.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Mecha.../204602478

I actually first considering buying craftsman but the future warranty circumstances are very unclear (with sears are not doing that great.)
And USA built and Chinese Built does have their differences in quality.

Crescent, not enough pieces in its largest tool set which mean I have to buy many supplementary individual pieces.
Made in Taiwan, I do like the built quality. DeWalt is better built though...I think.
https://www.amazon.com/Crescent-C...dpSrc=srch
(Note to Crescent: why do you always skip the 1/2" deep 16mm?! also the 16mm, 17mm combo wrench?! it is so expensive and annoying to buy individual supplementary pieces.)

Kobalt, I don't have any experience with the brand.

And this set is by far the lowest cost with the highest quality set at the time.
(if money is no object...there are, of course, higher and better quality set.)

Disclaimer: I don't work for Dewalt, amazon or Home Depot

To the SDers who are interested with automobile and therefore, tools.
I tried to contribute my effort into sharing the fruit of my search.

I don't mind the thumb down, as long as you can share your thought.
May be I can learn something about a better deal or ways to find them. who knows.

That was a good deal!
I am glad you got that.

I also saw that deal but it is not for me.
I'd get a mid or high torque impact wrench from Dewalt, Milwaukee or Ingersoll Rand.

I own craftsman, kobalt and Dewalt mechanics tool sets. The Dewalt is definitely the best in my opinion, the kobalt is a great set too. The new craftsman's sets are complete garbage. Ratchets are junk. Jam up and they aren't smooth.

I agree the 204 piece set is nice and has a lot of more useful pieces than the 200 piece set I have. For me personally I can't justify the OP set at anything over $100. I'm in my set under $50, I can't see paying over $100 more for the extras it has. At the end of the day, I'm super cheap. Slickdeals has done this to me! I pretty much wont buy any tools anymore unless the price is good enough to buy 3, sell 2, get mine for free and still make a few bucks.

THANKS!!!! I have been waiting to find a good deal on this set. This is the terminator of all mechanics tool sets. I got here early and I know that there is going to be a lot of debate whether this set is a good deal. I am a professional mechanic, and would have no problem using this set to accomplish most jobs. This is a big heavy set, which would be easily transported in the trunk of your car. Like I said, this is the biggest baddest set out there! The tools are of very good quality. There are no fillers in this set, like small bits etc, to bring up the tool count. If you are thinking of starting a tool collection to work on your vehicle and you have no tools now. Starting with this set would be a great choice.
