For those new to the Arlo systems:

Arlo camera = gen 1, wifi to base station, cloud dependent. 720P. CR123 batteries. Motion detection triggered recording, or manual.

Arlo Pro camera = gen 2, wifi to base station. cloud dependent. 720P. Rechargeable batteries. Motion detection triggered recording, or manual.

Arlo Pro 2 = gen 3, wifi to base station, cloud dpendent. 1080P. Rechargeable batteries. Motion detection triggered recording, or manual. Option to use AC adapter to power camera - this enables additional functionality and features - including attaching "look ahead buffered video" for motion triggered recordings ( catching more of the video ), as well as continuous recording option ( requires a paid monthly service charge ).

Arlo Pro base station has a USB port you can attach a storage device to. You will still need to connect the system to the cloud for functionality.

Arlo cameras do not include an embedded time stamp. This may cause an issue for using the videos for evidence.

Arlo cloud service has a free tier ( up to 7 days of short video clips saved, up to 5 cameras ( or 6 if bought in a 6 camera kit ) )

Arlo and other cloud services do at times experience outages.

I purchased the Arlo Pro kit from Costco and have thoroughly enjoyed the system overall, in for one and looking forward to the upgrade. That being said, keep in mind what this is and understand how it works, it is not perfect nor does it compete with a wired system, IMO. Your internet download speeds have little to do with how this system will perform so do some reading, follow the instructions, and you will be fine assuming you're not installing in a mansion. This system communicates over it's own WiFi network that is broadcast via the base station so you technically don't even need an existing WiFi network to use it. If you're experiencing lag in camera playback or live viewing, it is likely that interference or distance from the base station is your issue. Arlo installation was a breeze and well worth the compromises you need to make when compared to a wired system, again IMO. Keep in mind that many WiFi or "wireless" systems still require the cameras be plugged in to an A/C outlet. I am capable of installing A/C outlets for a "wireless" system and/or network cable for a PoE setup but this system made setup so easy and the end result is good enough that I never considered anything else. I still get 5-6 months of battery life over a year in-to Arlo ownership and the cameras have been subjected to -20 up to 100 F. Keep in mind that battery life is dependent upon your recording configuration and the frequency you view the camera's live feed. Hope this helps someone on the fence.
