I've noticed someone has a sale for this phone at that price almost daily now.

sounds like you are a top secret agent. Just got an email from google today about my "timeline" in July, listed all 16 stores I visited last month, even telling me how much time I was driving, all routes I used for commute. Tell me about spying. We all got tracked, even more beyond that.

Any chance the P20 Pro will come down to this price in the next few months?

You can turn that off on Android. You don't know what information these phones collect.

So many better choices than this in the $500 price range.
What site (or SD thread) would you recommend that keeps current with what the best phones are in the X->Y price range?

It'd be sweet if they also consider for this assessment what used prior-gen phones are going for as well.

Best value for a flagship phone. Of course, you need to be careful if you work for military or government. However, if you are just an average consumer, i don't see the 'security' is an issue here.

this or OnePlus 6 ($30 more)?

Edit: I wonder why Chinese brand flagships have more RAM (6-8 GB since 2016). I wonder if it's to handle all the gov't mandated spyware in the background. laugh out loud

My wife love the huawei mate 10 that We bought it brand new off ebay. The speaker blown after a week of using. We had to return for a full refund. But we re xonsidering switching to huawei mate pro. Since its newer it might ve solved all the build and software issues. We re looking for mocha color which neweggs only offered gray.
