Lenovo Smart Display 10" - $199 ($50 Off) at Costco B&M - YMMV - Members Only

Costco online sold out of the 10" $199 deal for this product: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/smart-display/ [lenovo.com]

Brick and Mortar stores have started to receive shipments of 16-24 per store and the $199 price remains for members.

Steps to track:
They wouldn't reserve for me, but my local store in NH didn't have a display for it yet so they weren't being grabbed by anyone not aware they were in the back.

My local Costco claimed that they don't have it and "it's only sold online"

Sorry, bought two today as the receipt shows. Maybe not all stores are getting them? Either way, their claim of only online is false.

still think it makes more sense to buy a $100 10" kindle and either mount it or by a case so it can rest....save urself $100...or buy two.

i mean whatever purpose your going to use this lenovo smart display for, you can achieve the same thing with the amazon kindle for half price.

ONly if you're really tied into the Google home ecosystem and have Nest cameras and like spend time in the kitchen. I see that as it's primary use.

Kitchen monitor that you can watch shows on, view doorbell cam plus security cams and have step by step recipes.

another use is a TV replacement for kids who don't have a lot of space in their bedrooms. it can sit on their desk and replace the TV and google home if they have one already in there.

If its not tied to the google ecosystem out of box, its not the same as this. Yes you can tinker to get a kindle to work with google and use google services, but out of the box best to my knowledge its tied to the amazon ecosystem which is not the same as this. Not to mention the speaker on this is probably better than a kindle speaker.

That's an option, but imo a Fire tablet with Alexa or Google Assistant is not that great in the kitchen. Speaker and microphone is worse. You will still likely need to use the touchscreen to navigate through recipes, etc, and you wouldn't want to touch the tablet with dirty hands as you're scrolling through a recipe. You could buy the Show Mode Charging Dock for $40-55 and that makes it closer to the Smart Display.

Not saying that the Smart Display is perfect either. It is really limited in what it can do in each of the apps (Spotify, smart home lighting). It can't load up recipes from the specific websites I use, so I haven't used it for recipes much. You can't use the Google Cast features to do multi-room audio either. It acts like a Chromecast TV dongle which doesn't support multi-room audio either. But it is nice to have a big screen that focuses on a few widgets in big text. I think it has potential, but not a must-have right now.

Yes/No. My primary use case is an easy video conferencing solution for my aging parents. Putting the effort into buying another device (Kindle, Pi, Android tablet), giving them instructions on setup, and then supporting it is well worth $100.

As a DIY user, big fan of piHole, hass.io, and other similar projects, there is value in alternative and open-sourced solutions. There is also value in plug and play.

The screen on this device is beautiful. Just as a digital picture frame it is awesome. But it also has smart home capabilities, great speakers for music and you can watch tv or play youtube videos from it. I say it is well worth the price.

yes, im sure the speaker is better, but for purposes of whatever ur likely using it for, it is sufficient on the tablet.

and again, uve not clarified what u mean by tied. i have a kindle that can leverage amazon stuff or google play store. so u need to clarify what u mean by "tied" ur not "tied" to either really with the kindle

If anyone could convince Best Buy to price match, they might be able to get the 20 dollar BB GC that goes with it to. It's probably a longshot.
